It's as if the entire Firefly crew was played by a cast of two. Sometimes they're Mal and Simon. Sometimes Mal and River. Sometimes Jayne goes on a mish with Kaylee. Anything can happen, odds are it won't be pretty in the process, but as long as they come out of it alive, that counts as a win.

Oh, you got questions? Like about the apocalypse that's mentioned a few times in every chapter? Or the backstory of the lead character?

Yeah, you're not getting any answers.

The only answers you'll get, is the backstory of the secondary lead. And you'll figure that out way before the author writes them out for you.

This reads like the 5th book in a series.

World building was ok, but the humor was not up to Bartimaeus standard. The story was fast paced, but really about a C for me.

4.5 stars.

"The secret of being a successful outlaw was to move fast and stay light on your feet. No ties, no allegiance. Rob one town, head for the next; fling yourself willingly into the wastes between. Never look back." -Johnathan Stroud, The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne

I'm somewhat predictable. Tell me about a well written fiction book about criminals or outlaws trying to do mostly the right thing and I've probably picked it up from my library, like, yesterday.

The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne did not disappoint.

I found it a little hard to get into at first, but after the first 4 chapters or so, I was invested and ready to follow these hooligan characters to the ends of the earth (or across the Thames at least).

I really enjoyed how this book was set in England (albeit, a much different England than what currently exists), especially since the author is British. There was quite a bit of British phrases and slang that I was unfamiliar with, but I think it really added nicely to the story.

SpoilerThe Tainted really freaked me out, but I'm a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to things like strange cannibals chasing you across the river, especially whilst giant otters try to also eat you.

I'm looking forward to a sequel of this book!
