This made for a really fun read for book club! It was the tamest romance I've read in a while (I don't even think I would call this one PG-13. It was barely PG), but it was still a lot of fun. The characters were cute, the use of LA and NY as characters in their own right was fun, and the intertwining of art and science throughout the book was really interesting. I enjoyed the adventures our characters kept going on and the respective moments where they realized they were in love with each other were so beautiful that it felt like I was watching a movie moment. All of that leads into the bad: I absolutely loved the first 3/4ths of the book, but the ending felt too easy and entirely un-earned. I assumed all of the red string theory tests would be relevant later in the book, but they were totally forgotten. Did we ever even meet the museum employee who lost her ID badge? Was taking the wrong direction meaningful for any reason? The tests didn't further their relationships or their careers. Why were they included at all?? Plus, they just decided "love conquers all, so we don't need to figure out any of the hard questions"? They didn't address or solve any of the issues that actually kept them apart during the book. And the best friend just kind of disappears at the end

This was cute. Not my favorite by any means, but I always love romance intertwining with science.

#RedStringTheory:⁣

Thank you @readforeverpub for my gifted copy!⁣

“May fate bring us close enough to choose”⁣

Red String Theory was such a fun romance. I love a good space romance, and I love fated mates, so this just hit the sweet spot. Rooney was such a lovable character and Jack’s NASAness made this book a win for me.⁣

This could easily be turned into a movie. Searching for each other desperately through the big city to come up empty handed when the restaurant closes, can’t give out personal info, etc, just to be found months later across the globe. This book had me kicking me little feet up and being so excited because I do believe in fate. There was so much tension, I was expecting steam city, but glad it focused on the relationship at hand. Lastly, third act breakup not an issue here. It was a great transition. ⁣

This was a sweet story that explored the ideas of fate and choices.

There are two narrators for the two POVs. I'm used to one narrator per chapter, but in this one, each narrator read their own dialog throughout the book. This took me a little bit to get used to.

I recommend this book to people who love romance with Hallmark level spice, opposites attract, and exploring life's big questions through art.

This is a beautiful book about fate and choices and love. I loved the deep discussions in this book and the philosophizing. There was so much richness to this book.
I was provided an advanced copy of this book which has not affected my review.

Read if you like: Serendipity & Before Sunrise - this book is a perfect mixture of those two movies. Rooney aka RSG aka Red String Girl is an artist based in New York who works on creating anonymous live experiences/exhibits in the city. Rooney believes in signs and fate, and one night fate leads her to meeting Jack Liu, a science based engineer who works at NASA and lives in California. On their one night together in NYC they walk around the city, talking about everything (romantic). Jack doesn’t know that Rooney is Red String Girl, the artist who set up the exhibit he visited earlier in the day. As their thread starts to unravel, fate (or if you ask Jack, coincidence) causes them to meet again in LA.

There’s SO much to this story. It’s a bit slow paced, but there are layers to this story that made it so great. I loved all the fate talk, and the balance with science talk. I loved how Rooney and Jack built their relationship, and just how this story unfolded. Lauren must have done SO much research to write this story, and it was such a treat.

I enjoyed this! As a space and romance lover this was a really great combination of my interests. For the most part the writing was great and I enjoyed the characters. Jack’s cynicism was a bit annoying at times but I understood why he was the way he was. I really loved reading the chapters were everything clicked for them at the end. I think Jack and Rooney were a great couple and they had so many moments that made me smile. True rating is a 3.5.
