Just an enjoyable rom com with banter
As another reviewer said, "The FMC was a manic pixie dream girl and the MMC was a classic tech bro". It just didn't work for me. The NASA part and space science stuff was cool tho, but the science wasn't enough to compensate for how god awful the FMC was.
a book gets 5 stars from me if it actually makes me laugh & gets me to kick up my legs because of how cute the character interactions are
4.5 stars.
Red String Theory just made me so happy while reading. The premise is one of my favorite things…soulmates. How could I not be happy??
Rooney, our FMC, is an artist that has based her entire art identity about the red string theory: a theory that each person has a red string attaching them to their soulmate. Upon chance, she meets Jack, who is the scientist to her artist and doesn’t believe in fate. They spend one beautiful day together and circumstances mean they are apart until another chance meeting. Hmmmmmm Jack…that sounds like fate to me.
I thought Red String Theory was adorable. It includes a lot of information about Chinese culture and shows how both Rooney and Jack struggle with their identities and where they fit (obvs together, duh).
Overall, this is a smut-free romance that is sweet and heartwarming. It’s my second by Lauren Kung Jessen and I hope it won’t be my last.

I really really enjoyed this one, like a lot. It was beautifully written and all the fate moments made me smile big time. I listened to this on audio and the audio was fabulous, definitely recommend it. I liked the NASA plot line and the characters (especially her mom).

This was a delightful romance. I really enjoyed the debate between fate and choice. It was wonderful.
Don’t get me wrong, the writing isn’t bad. The plot isn’t bad. I don’t hate romance novels but this was just so bland? The characters sound like they are plucked from a bad lifetime rom-com. Can’t connect with anyone in this novel bc their personalities seem so exaggerated. This novel genuinely made me want to give up reading romance novels for the rest of the year.

This was cute! I really enjoyed learning about the different cultural aspects of the story. The main characters were cute and had a sweet romance.
