Really enjoyed this. It's slow to get moving, due to lots of exposition in the first few chapters setting up our characters in their new location (which is intriguing and pretty awesome!) and reminding us of what's gone before for each of them, but I was totally invested. I'm just loving the settings in this series and the complex relationships between both dragons and humans. Plus the exploration of a world without birth control and the consequences for women, with different women responding in different ways to this. The dragons are also so cool, there's no cheese in their relationships with their keepers, they're as flawed and impetuous and varied as humans can be. I can't wait to read book 4 to find out what happens next.

Robin Hobb is still a fantastic author, but I just feel the pacing in some of the rain wild chronicles could be a little better. I'm still very much invested in the characters and the world, but I'm not sure about splitting this series into a quartet. I'll wait and see for blood of dragons!

The writing was great, but I'm frustrated by a growing trend with writers. That is, as soon as the book begins to get interesting, it ends and you're supposed to wait around (and buy) the next one. It's a trend that has grown rather old with me.
