I'm having a hard time formulating my thoughts on this story for a couple of reasons: Firstly, this is my first time reading a second chance romance, so I have no other examples to compare this book with. Secondly, there are SO many aspects to this book that I'm still trying to process it all. Thirdly, I read this book in small snippets here and there which affected my connection to the story.

Honestly, it's been over 12 hours since I've finished this book and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. All I can say now that it was a fun time, though not mind-blowing.

I was really rooting for Kara, and I appreciated how her relationships with her family and friends were developed at laid out. Ryan bugged me a little bit at the beginning (though the chemistry was great), and when the twist came out I was ready to throw the book down and start something else. Overall, though, it's a fun romance--I just wish I had liked Ryan more (and that Kate did some more research into the Italian culture and language).

NB: I would totally read the historical novel Kara was working on...

What a freaking whirlwind. This book had so many twists and turns, and it all happened so quickly. There are some seriously messed up relationships in this book, and a lot of emotional growth and baggage. I really think the author tried to pack too much into it, making everything feel rushed; there was info-dumping all over the place. It definitely read like a first novel, but I would be interested in checking out this author's next book because there is definite potential.

When Ryan and Kara were good, they were really good, but the rest of the time...not so much. I still have conflicted feelings over the ending, and how the last fourth or so of the book played out. This book is definitely an interesting ride, and although it's not the fluffy romance it's marketed as, it does have its own merits.

If this was real life I’d be far more judgmental of the main characters & their romance but it’s not. It’s escapist fiction and I found it to be an entertaining read. My biggest complaint is that I am over the trope of female leads having body issues as a shorthand to make them seem relatable to the reader.
