this is a gorgeous memoir told through maggie o’farrel’s 17 near death experiences. it’s a lovely easy read, makes you totally appreciate your body as a home, and i thought the format was so unique and fun to read. my one criticism is that some of the near death experiences are just SO MUCH less shocking than others … it took me out of it a bit. but the final chapter was completely moving. this is lovely.

I loved this book so much that I started re-reading it immediately after finishing it. This book was almost like a book of wisdom for me. A substitute for scripture study. It was just that kind of spiritual experience to read. Maggie O'Farrell tells her life story through 17 instances where she or a loved one came close to death. When I first read the title, I was intrigued. How, I thought, could someone be that close to death so many times, and still be alive? Through reading the memoir, I came to realize that these little brushes with death happen to all of us in big and small ways. Death is all around us, a small step to the right or the left could determine whether we live or die. The miracle is that we are still here bopping around obliviously half the time taking for granted that we are alive. Highly, highly recommended!
