DNF - I liked the movie enough when I saw it many years ago that I have always wanted to read the book because of its interesting premise, but unfortunately the writing falls flat. I just can't bring myself to care about the characters, and it's so simple and slow. I think if I read this in high school, I would've enjoyed it much more because the writing almost caters towards a younger mindset despite the more adult themes. Meh.

I really enjoyed this book. I listened to the abridged audio version which was read by a delightful Irish actress (Victoria Smurfit), which I highly recommend. This was a story about a young woman named Holly whose husband dies unexpectedly. He leaves her notes for the months following his death of things she must do which are meant to help her heal and move on. There is much sadness in this story, but there is also much love and healing, and Holly has many wonderful friends and family members who help her along the way. I really enjoyed the journey and the ending--although not completely what I expected--just felt right.

Lovely

A lovely story. Much more different from the movie but exactly this book is what you would expect from Cecilia Ahern

First of all, I watched the movie, PS, I Love You, several years ago and I was completely unaware at the time that it was based on the novel of the same name. I purchased PS, I Love You by Cecelia Ahern about a year ago and it sat on my shelf untouched until now. I was worried that it would not be as good as the movie, or it would be so much better than the movie would be forever ruined for me. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised by both the book’s quality of writing and the deviations from the movie as well.

The novel is vastly different from the movie and I think that’s what made it so good for me. I was able to separate the two works from each other and judge the book on its own merits. The characters are believable and the dialogue seemed to flow fairly naturally throughout the book. I was only 30 pages in before I was sobbing uncontrollably and completely ensnared by the story.

PS, I Love You was wonderfully crafted and very well-done. Each aspect of it surpassed my expectations and landed Cecelia Ahern as an author to look for. I will definitely be adding more Ahern books to my shelves soon.
