3.44 AVERAGE

This gets a 3.5 from me. It’s an interesting read. I liked the mystery and the surprises at the end, however it did seem a bit disjointed to me at times and the all the character threads were a bit hard to keep straight some times. The end however was really good, when it was revealed how all the threads came together.

Amazing. Loved the plot and the twists and turns were excellent!!

Hated it. This book was so freaking boring and slow, I really struggled with it. There are way too many characters, seriously there has to be at least two dozen secondary characters, and too many subplots.

A lot of things seemed really coincidental, too, it was hard to believe at times.

I did not like the writing style either, it was very stilted and dated and would have been even in 2013 when the book was released.

The title also has absolutely nothing to do with the book, it doesn’t even make sense.

hospital book club book. I was not impressed. I used to devour all of Mary Higgins Clark books when i was younger but i didnt enjoy this book very much. the end kinda saved it but i guess my taste had changed as the other ladies liked it.

Some parts of this book were just so mind numbingly STUPID! I expected great things from Clark and she sadly didn't deliver! Far too many sub plots, and as much as I love reading about food, I've never felt so bored reading about ham and Swiss on rye and bloody salads! Clark took a bunch of strings and attempted to tie them together into a beautiful knot but instead ended up with a tangled ugly mess. The chapter I hated the most was the two priests discussing the minutiae of the boating accident, it was such a formal fact based discussion and had no feeling or humanity in it. Positively ridiculous! Not to mention the feeling I should hear 'DUH DUH DUUUUUUUUH' at the close of each chapter!
emotional mysterious fast-paced

Another fun Mary Higgins Clark mystery. I guessed the killer and the twist a little earlier than I would have liked, but still enjoyed reading as it played out.

Maybe it only deserved 3 stars as far as a literary work, but I love a good Mary Higgins Clark, and I got five stars worth of enjoyment out of it :-) Quick read, short chapters, good plot. Twist at the end maybe I should have seen coming but didn't. Worth reading.

If you're familiar with MHC's writing, then you mostly know what to expect from one of her standalone thrillers. As far as they go, this one was on the milder side. There were several tense moments but not the sort that give me the heebie-jeebies when I have my back to a window late at night. (I've read a couple of her books that have had exactly that effect.)

What I liked about Daddy's Gone A Hunting:
Lots of mystery and red herrings - This book goes full tilt toward complex and convoluted. You're left guessing on several different fronts. As I started to put the primary mystery together, I still couldn't put my finger on the rest of it until the final moments where it was all being spelled out.
Typical short chapters - These make for an easy read. They also trick you into "just one more" until, before you realize it, you've read a hundred pages.

What I didn't care for:
Portions of it were just so far-fetched - I suspend disbelief pretty easily when I want to be entertained, but there were points in this book where I really had to shake my head. Clearly, it didn't stop me from reading. There was a solid enough base to keep me wanting to know how the whole thing would shake out.
The title of this book made almost no sense whatsoever - I don't need the cover or the title to tell me everything about the book. I've read plenty where they didn't seem to relate hardly at all but I could still see why the author went that route. This one though? I felt like I thought of at least three better titles as I was reading, and I am still not sure what on earth this cover has to do with the story at all.

Let's state the obvious. MHC isn't going to win any literary awards. This isn't even the best of her work. But it *was* entertaining.
SpoilerI especially give credit for the way the three separate mysteries connected and why because it did make at least some sense to me.
Every so often, I like a heart-pounding thriller, but I am also a wimp and this is as close to thriller as I can get. Even for me, this wasn't really as scary as some of her others. A solid way to pass the time for a few days.

Mary Higgins Clark é uma das minhas autoraa favoritas.
este livro não me agarrou como os outros que já li, apesar disso é, tal como é normal nos livros dela, um policial levezinho, que mantém o suspense até ao final.
