Not fast-paced, but still page-turning and exciting.
Clark has written a decent mystery with intriguing suspense and enough twists and turns to keep it interesting but not so many that it becomes overworked. The characters are just ok. One only ever gets a basic sense of them, but there is never enough to make them garner sympathy. They're all surface characterizations. Many of them feel overly stereotypical and caricature-ish, not realistic.
The story is interesting. The characters kind of boring and overall, this book is just ok. Her more recent novels feel more and more like her daughter's books, bland and insipid. Earlier in her career she wrote some really exciting stories with likable characters.

Mary Higgins Clark é uma das minhas autoraa favoritas.
este livro não me agarrou como os outros que já li, apesar disso é, tal como é normal nos livros dela, um policial levezinho, que mantém o suspense até ao final.

I felt like I had to read this book, because I've read all of her others, but I found this one to be a little blah.
Long time readers know all of the seemingly random characters will be connected in the end, but this time Clark kept spelling it out. "He had no way of knowing that..." Or "he'll find out soon enough..." It was just forced and unnecessary.

The writing was too simplistic and the plot was so predictable.
I very much enjoyed this book. Towards the end it was predictable but regardless I love Mary's writings. This is one of my new favorites.
