I really enjoyed this adaptation of the story. It helped me to really enter this world and visualize the different fantasy species. I feel like I will enjoy the rest of the series even more now!

I read a review that mentioned Artemis Fowl as being an anti-hero main character and that is so true. My son said it was confusing because he didn’t know who to root for. It is unusual to have a main character that isn’t necessarily nice or kind in the end. I got the graphic novel to get my son into the series (which worked for Wings of Fire and somewhat Percy Jackson - but more audio than graphic novel worked better)... we will see. Interested in the movie! Love books being turned into great movies!

I loved the illustrations and how much they respected the original storyline. However, it was too fast paced for me and I think it would have beneficiated from a bit more pages.

I loved reading the original book, but the graphic novel left something to be desired. For one thing, they cut out a great deal of detail, and, for another, they made Artemis seem downright sociopathic (or on his way to being so). He was a great deal more human in the book, and the way I pictured the characters in the book completely jarred with how they presented them.

For one thing, Foaly looks like a glorified chimp, and Mulch looks god awful. They changed Holly's skin color, too, because it's in the books as mocha. (shakes head) I suppose this should appeal to the younger generation, but it didn't seem true to the series for me.

I think I am missing some backstory. maybe reading the graphic novel before the actual book was a mistake, maybe not. I can't say right now. But the quality of the artwork is great, I say that.

If I ever teach a comics class this is the book I'll bring in as an example of how not to adapt a novel.

I'm not sure if the graphic novel took away a lot of the descriptions or bulk of this novel, but it was pretty hard to get into in this format. It seemed like things just happened out of nowhere with minimal explanation. And the images themselves didn't lend the explanation either, so it didn't really make sense why the transitions weren't smoother. Overall it felt like it was all over the place with a slight plot to follow underneath it all. Maybe it's enjoyable if you've read the novels already, but as my first experience with the series, it was very hard to keep reading. I may try again in novel format, but for now, the series is not for me.

A good start.

One of the first graphic novels I’ve read in a long time. I really enjoyed the kindle cinematic version of this one. I can’t wait to dive into the Arctic Incident.
