I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much reading a book. Beautiful story and well written
emotional hopeful inspiring medium-paced

Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Other than a disappointing finality to the book; too much at the end, like cramming loosely woven ends in to make a page count.  If not for that it was tracking close to a 5⭐️ read for me.  If you like books about grumpy or (extra)ordinary old men like “A Man Called Ove”, “The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife” or “The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared” you will probably like this one.

There is nothing I hate more than the
dead the whole time
twist.
Especially when employed in the phone call method. Elinor Oliphant, the woman in the window, countless others I’ve forgotten. Why do writers do this? I think this book could have been a 5 star if not for that. It pissed me off so bad

I loved this book, it's been a while since I was so attached to characters. The unlikely friendships that form and I was just rooting for Hubert the entire time.
Amazing book, no notes. Would definitely recommend.
I like that while there are some big twists, it's not like you're expecting them. What do you mean Rose never existed? My worries about him lying to her the entire time were for nothing, I was so shocked at that. Unfortunately I was less surprised that David never returned. Hubert really had no family left, but it was great he did find the friends. I just wish he'd was around to enjoy it more.

This was such a sweet book that took on really difficult topics in a gentle way. Racism, adiction, parenting, love, Aging, grief, mental health, loneliness. I loved the characters in the book and loved learning about Hubert's life. The book was just the right pace for a read on the couch with some tea.
