This book really captures the feelings of hurt over lost best friendships. I just wish Kaavi had been a bit more redeemable in the end.

This was the most disjointed book with the worst dialogue. The entire thing could have been prevented with one sentence but because there is no plot or depth, the main character lets herself get interrupted six times and ignores six chances to complete one single sentence. So ridiculous.

I'll never be a victim.

This was a lot.

I didn't really like this book in the beginning. Amaya is a bit off-putting and immediately struck me as an incredibly unreliable narrator. I just needed a bit to get into her character, find parts of her narrative that I found relatable (which is just a personal preference in protagonists for me). As more about her background was revealed my feelings about her changed, though.
Once you get over your first ick toward her it gets increasingly clear that she's a well developed character, clearly shaped by her experiences in life. Her voice is strong and affected me more than I first realized.

In terms of the story; it takes a bit to actually get off the ground which is just something that can turn me off a story, especially a thriller, pretty quickly (again, personal preference). But I read this for a bookclub so I wanted to actually finish and boy, was it worth it. Once we actually get to the part where Amaya travels to Sri Lanka i became increasingly invested in the story.
There's some interesting twists and turns in here, and a surprising but satisfying end.

I also greatly enjoyed the commentary on Sri Lankan culture and traditions, which is something I knew very little about before.

Lots of complicated characters. I enjoyed the unusual set up, with first person accounting by two main characters, interspersed with security interviews after the event
