The characterization in this novel was phenomenal. I was gripped by Amaya, a deeply troubled and questionably reliable narrator. The brief switch to Kaavi's POV gave insight to her spoiled, conniving tendencies. It was like Crazy Rich Asians gone wrong — in a good way.

Part of my 15-book @bookofthemonth goal for the year is to work through some of the ones that have been on the shelf for a couple years, so I finally picked up this bride goes missing at her own wedding thriller. This book reads fast thanks to its structure, with chapters being told from the POV of Amaya, followed by an interview transcript of the investigation with various parties. As someone who rarely readers thrillers, I don’t try to figure out the twists and turns and instead just letting them come as they happen. Thriller fans would likely have a stronger opinion on this one but I found it a good, if not going to be all that memorable read.
This is not good. It is, as a wise woman in my book club called it, "amateurish." I'd pat the college freshman who wrote this for class on the back and say, "Keep writing!" I sure as sh** wouldn't publish it.
(Fabulous cover design/art however! THAT'S some taste, creativity, and talent.)

“It’s funny what you call home. Some find it in a place, others in people. You can find it in a smell, in a smile, in a feeling. Home is where the heart is, people say. So where’s your home if your heart has been broken into a million pieces, over and over again? Do you have to dig through the rubble to find a sense of belonging, or has the idea of home disappeared, along with everything else?”
What an ending! It took me awhile to get into it, but by the halfway point I couldn’t put it down.
