I do understand the perspective that Orwell came from and the nature of the dystopian novel, the absolute bleakness of it but there is a misanthropy deep in this novel.
There is a reflection of realities of his time of his experiences and it is a watch word, especially in times like those we are living through, but the inherent despair in the conclusion is as crushing as the boot. We cannot become complacent about the state of human freedom and betterment, but we must not give into despair. Orwell told the story he felt he had to tell.
I just ultimately wanted a different story. I think we need different stories then this.

It took me surprisingly long to get into this story, after feeling mostly disappointed with the first half or so. The conceptual part is definitely deserving its reputation. It can be an interesting scenario, a conversation starter, a dystopia or a warning.
