This is such an amazing book! Definitely one of my favorites. If you like strong female leads, adventure and having a strong spirit. This is such a strong and moving book. If you have a creative mind, you can see the meaning behind the story.
Not what I expected - in a good way
I thought this book was going to be more similar to Alice in Wonderland. I had put off reading it for that fact alone. I am glad I changed my mind. This book was amazing. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I'm looking forward to the second part of Ali's story.

Very interesting twist of a zombie book! Not your typical stab them in the brain zombie book. I liked the paranormal vibe the book gave. The sprinkling of Alice in Wonderland themes was nice!
Can't wait for the second book!

Okay so it was not what I was expecting; I thought it would be a retelling of Alice In Wonderland with zombies and such. Though I really didn't see any resemblance to AIWL I still thought it was pretty cool. Overall, not what I expected but I think the book had a rather unique take on zombies.
Spoiler
I thought the ghost zombies where really cool. I mean it's like ghosts are pretty scary and zombies are horrifying on their own, but blend them together? Wow.
Alice in Wonderland.
Zombies.
Cue batting eyes and fluttering heart. A girls dream come true.
I was in the library, sitting in the YA section my son was picking out picture books to practice reading, and saw this cover. LOVE the cover. So set down my daughter, gave in to the pull, and saw the title.
Alice.
Zombies.
SOLD.
At first I wasn't too keen on Alice. Meek, whiney, and just complained about her horrible life. Then and she kind of slightly got better, but maybe that's because she now had a reason to be so upset.
As the story progressed, I liked her more and more. She takes what's she's given from life and fights. Finally. But maybe that's because of Cole.
Cole.
COLE
He's just a character, so it's ok that I drool over him even though he's in high school. Now, granted he is kinda possessive, but not overly so like a lot of male sex leads are. I think it's the badass-ness of him. What is it with me loving the bad boys?
I love the zombies and what they did with them. Not your typical average zombie retelling. It's interesting and different, and I really liked that. I think if Showalter had done another zombie book like every zombie book, it wouldn't have made the book for me.
Kat I don't even know what to say. Awesome. Great. I want her as a friend. She was probably my favorite.
This probably won't be for everyone. I have a feeling it's going to be a case of you either like it or don't with these books.

While I did enjoy reading this book, it wasn't what I expected and I had quite a few problems with it. First, the title and synopsis are very misleading. I was expecting an Alice in Wonderland retelling. Instead it was an unoriginal, stereotypical teen melodrama. Second, the characters were annoying. Ali, the main character, becomes very weak willed around Cole. Cole, the love interest, is extremely controlling and demanding. And Kat, the bff, has an ego that needs to be crushed. Third, the book is very romance heavy. Instead of an exciting, action-packed adventure, you're given a plot that centers around Ali and Cole's "relationship". The only things I did really like was some of the cute moments Cole and Ali had and some of the badass scenes. Overall, I don't recommend this book when there's so many other books out there.
