Full of teenage angst and twilight parallels. I wanted more zombie gore and less whining about Mackenzie. Liked the homage paid to Alice in Wonderland, but it is definitely not a zombie fueled reselling of the story. More of a Buffy the vampire slayer/ twilight story with the emphasis on zombies who have to be "ashed" to be killed. Kat was by far the best character, though she started out sort of annoying.
Stephanie Mayer fans, buy and rejoice. Walking dead fans, avoid at all costs. Alice in wonderland fans, I'm not sure what to tell you. You're on your own.

3.5 stars. Definitely not what I expected but an interesting listen. I was hesitant to finish at first and then I got into and began to look forward to my drive to work.
very frustrating. its a YA book, that might be great for some people but not for me.
it got my attention then it lost it, got it, lost it. that was the whole book experience for me. it left me frustrated.
i like the story between Ali and Cole. i might revisit it at another stage to see if the book still frustates me... i dont know why i just wanted to scream when it hit another boring bit. the last half of the book i marathon read, and that was good. it was just the first half of the book.

Umm...wtf? So I was expecting something along the lines of Pride Prejudice and Zombies...NOT EVEN CLOSE. It was brainless fluff. There were moments of decency, but overall...it was crap. Sorry. But it was
I don't know. It was funny, the writing on point, and there were zombies, but I guess I'm still looking for the Alice I grew up with. I will read the second book though.
Going in, I had little to no expectations. I saw a lot of people who were disappointed because they thought the book was an Alice in Wonderland retelling. (BTW if you think that...you're going to be disappointed too!)
I was really surprised ! It took me a while to get invested in the book, but once I was, I couldn't put it down.
I loved the MC. She was badass and didn't take shit from anyone. Sure she made questionnable decisions sometimes, but I could understand her reasoning. Plus, it usually gave us kickass zombie action.
I also enjoyed the romance a lot ! At first, I thought it would be insta-love, but turns out it's a pretty slow burn. Spoiler There's a fair amount of kissing, but no big love confessions. Cole is the typical bad boy with a dark past. But he treats Ali well and I really liked the banter between the two.
All in all, there was a lot of action, danger and rescues. REAALLY enjoyed this book. I took away half a star because of the slow beginning.
