i read this book as a freshman in high school (i’m now a senior in college) and it was the first time i’d ever claimed to have a “favorite” series. with that being said, i was very worried that i wasn’t going to enjoy this series if i reread it because what if it was meant for a young audience and made me cringe? or what if it just wasn’t that great? my desire to reread outweighed my fear of disappointment and thank goodness it did!!! i love it just as much now as i did the first time i read it. i remembered a lot of what was going to happen, but was still on the edge of my seat and excited to turn the page. the banter and sarcasm took me by surprise in the best way possible. i didn’t think i read much of that in the beginning of high school, but i guess i haven’t evolved as much as i thought
I was so happy when I got this book! I had heard a lot of great things about it and - hello - it looked as though it would have something to do with Alice in Wonderland, which, in case you haven't noticed, I'm sort of obsessed with.
And I'm happy to say I quite enjoyed this read.
The plot was great - heart pounding and fast paced with lots of great zombie fighting scenes. I really loved seeing the way it changed Alice (or better known as Ali) from being someone who was broken and defeated to a badass heroine with some mad fighting skills. I also thought the whole "spirit zombies" idea was wonderful. It added a unique twist on a typical zombie book. There were a few slower parts and a few scenes where I had to go back and reread because it had been unclear but overall I thought the plot was exciting and fun.
The characters were all amazing. Ali was a strong and witty female lead character who was able to stand up for herself when it came to zombies and super hot boys. Speaking of which . . . Cole was a VERY enjoyable part of this book. It took me a while to warm up to him but I did end up liking him quite a bit. He was a good leader and the perfect match for Ali. They really complimented each other. Another character I absolutely adored was Kat. She was energetic and fun and shined throughout this book, even though she was not a leading character. I loved the scenes she was in.
The only problem I had with was the fact that there wasn't much Alice in Wonderland in this read. Besides a few references and the titles, there were really no similarities between the two stories. I was disappointed as that had been a major reason I was so interested in this book. It almost felt a bit forced to have the connections. There was no real use for them. The book, without the Alice in Wonderland references, would have been just as good.
Still, I enjoyed this book a lot. I thought the characters were charming, the zombies were disgusting and creepy, and the plot was fun and interesting. If you have yet to pick up this book, I would highly suggest you check it out!

One of my new favorites!!! It reminds me a lot of Kresley Cole's Poison Princess. This chick is a bad@$$!
The title of this book had me hoping for a retelling of Alice in Wonderland with an action packed zombie twist. What I ended up with was a teen melodrama with spots of mild action and no spark to draw me into it.
This book has the ever popular insta-love between the main character and the "bad boy" at school. We know he is a bad boy because he hates our main girl from the start. Turns out he is the leader of the local zombie hunting gang. There isn't much character development or plot. I wouldn't even recommend this one as a mindless summer read. There are much better books out there.

"I was having dinner with Zombie Carl the other night. You know, steak, rare, and a bottle of vintage type A. He told me all his secrets, but too bad for you I promised him I wouldn't tell. In exchange I asked him to gather his best undead buddies and stalk me through my friend's yard."
I have heard a lot of people talk about this trilogy both good and bad things. I got all three books for Christmas, so i plan on reading them as soon as possible. They all have gorgeous covers and this one has a green theme under the dust jacket.
This book is not a fairy-tale retelling, and it has very little to do with Alice in Wonderland (save the title and Ali’s name). I think it is important that people realize this before reading the book and being disappointed. This was an easy enjoyable read that when I had time to read, I flew through. The cast of characters in this book is great. Between Cole and Justin, Kat and Frosty, Nana and Pops, and the rest of the zombie slayer gang, there are so many different personalities that we get to experience.
This book answered a lot of questions about the zombies and slayers but also raised a lot of questions about the hazmats are up to and what Ali is actually capable of. I’m looking forward to seeing where Gena Showalter goes with the rest of this trilogy.
As for the zombies, I really liked Gena’s spin on them and how they worked. These were more ghost like than your typical zombie and that made for some interesting choices in terms of how one defeats them. The romance in this book was also well done. It was a good progression and it is clear there are going to be problems in Cole and Ali’s future.

Alice Bell sees monsters, to be precise, she sees zombies. After a car accident that kills her parents and younger sister she is able to see these creatures and they are not the traditional zombies that you may be thinking of. Yes, they resemble walking corpses but they are invisible to most people and these monsters don't feed off off your flesh, they feed off your spirit. Ali's father used to see them but she always thought he was a bit crazy. Now she knows and regrets ever doubting her father.
Cole Holland is part of a secretive group of warriors who can see zombies. They spend their nights out patrolling the town protecting unsuspecting innocents. Cole and Ali are pulled together by a series of visions that they share when their eyes meet for the first time everyday. Ali is drawn into the group when it becomes known that she can see these monsters too.
First off I have to say. WHY HAS THIS BE SITTING IN MY TBR PILE FOR SO LONG??? Generally I am not a YA type of girl, but being that this is a Gena Showalter book and I am a HUGE fan girl of hers, I made sure to pick up a copy. And boy am I glad that I did! What an amazing read! I loved this take on zombies! And I loved Ali and Cole! Both had great depth of character and detail. The story was engaging, exciting and full of action. Not one time did I lose interest (which usually happens to me when I read YA). As a matter of fact I read it in one setting. Oh I'm paying for the no sleep now but it was so worth it!
Even though it was a YA there was plenty of heat in Cole and Ali's relationship. Cole was a great hero! He was fearless, sexy *rawr* and possessive. I can't wait to find out more about him. Ali was sweet, strong willed and brave. After losing everything dear to her she could've easily given up but she was determined to help fight the monsters . And while the story focuses more on Ali (which was great) I'm hoping that book two will give us more about Cole's background. I will definitely be diving into Through the Zombieglass next!
All in all another fantabulous book by the amazing Gena Showalter!!

This is not your Alice in wonderland remake. There are some subtleties to tie it in but nothing now then that. I slowly got into this book and then about half way through I began really enjoying it. As I read on I just didn't want it to end! Good thing there are more to this series!
This is a very interesting book! It wasn't anything like what I was expecting. Can't wait to start the next one!
This is a great book if you love zombies and a strong female lead character. Lots of action all through the book. Sprinkles of romance and humor as well.
Woah I was surprised how much I ended up liking this book, especially since I am not really a fan of zombies! Alice turned out to be pretty BA and I loved the zombie mythology. The plot was good and it kept me interested throughout. I sped through this book, it definitely pulled me in. Cole is pretty awesome too ;)
