3.78 AVERAGE

Ohhh this was exciting starting this book (I mean come on the title itself is pretty awesome - Alice in Wonderland AND zombies)!

This book is the first in the White Rabbit Chronicles and the story starts with an introduction to Alice Bell (also known as Allie) as she deals with a huge event resulting in her life being turned upside down.

We also get introduced to Cole Holland (who is my kind of bad ass) and his group of friends (who are also my kind of bad asses).

Will definitely be keen what happens further in this series (so far I like the direction they are going but I'm worried the author will focus far too much on the love component and not the background plot which I'm enjoying).

Wow!

Annoying fact #1 : No zombies

True story.

Annoying fact #2 : No Wonderland

Annoying fact #3 : An alpha-male jackass hero

Annoying fact #4 : Boring conversations

Yes, super! Toi tu sais parler aux femmes.
Je m'arrête là ^^

Annoying fact #5 : The heroin is annoying. Like, really annoying

Wow. Juste wow. Lame.

Annoying fact #6 : Dumb love-story

This is like Twilight but with zombie slayers instead of vampires. The writing was a bit better than Twilight, the plot similar, the main female character very bland so it was easy to mould her to your own experience, very stereotypical love/hate relationship story arc with no depth. Very typical masculine and feminine tropes described throughout, found it a bit sickly in places and laugh out loud terrible in others. Positive note: it did have more that just white characters in it, and a person with a long term medical condition (both uncommon in this kind of book) so it got 2 stars instead of 1.

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!

This book has been on my to read pile for a while, but I'm glad that I finally read it! At first I expected it to be a twist on Alice in Wonderland; where Alice falls down a rabbit hole and enters an alternate dimension with zombies. Alas, my theory was incorrect; however, the book was still good.

Alice Bell has just experienced the most traumatic event in her entire life and believes her life is totally over! But her life has just begun. After losing those who she loves, she begins to see things, things that others don't see. Alice finds herself looking outside her window ever night trying to catch a glimpse of a shadow moving in the forest. Soon Alice discovers that they're monsters, and they're very real. Her father was right all this time, and to avenger her family Alice must fight the undead.

Alice is not your ordinary girl obviously, she can see zombies and can venture into the spirit realm to fight them; however, she has to learn how. And that's where Cole comes into play. He's the school's resident bad boy and lives up to his rep. Cole is strong, muscular, tattooed, and 100% badass. He tends to underestimate other and he definitely underestimated Alice. She is not a pushover or a weakling; however, she's a strong independent girl holding down the fort. And that's one reason I love this book. Alice isn't portrayed as the damsel in distress, Alice saves the distressed. She has badassery written all over her! She kicks zombie butt!

Gena Showalter does an amazing job telling this story, and brings out every emotion in you.

But when you're in a zombie world, you have to beware. You either fight or get bitten.

3/5 stars

First thing is first, Alice in Zombieland had nothing to to with Alice in Wonderland. Do not go into the book expecting similarities because there are basically none. If you do you will be very disappointed. It is again, nothing like the original tale. I went into it knowing that therefore I think it helped me enjoy the book a bit more than I actually would of. I also found this book a mix between contemporary and horror although the book is not scary, at least in my opinion.

Alice in Zombieland is about a girl named Alice who's dad thinks there are monsters out there in the world and refuse to let the family out in the dark. One day something terrible happens and changes Alice's life forever. That is the best way I can describe it without spoiling it. If I add any more detail to the summery some people may think that it is a spoiler so I am leaving it the way it is.

I found the characters neutral. I never found one that stood out to me in a unique way like most books I read making it seem like I don't have a favourite character, which I guess I don't considering I don't love any of the characters.

Despite the fact it is nothing like Alice in Wonderland, I found myself enjoying some parts of the story. I also found myself hating some parts as well.

As for final words, I shall remind you again NOTHING LIKE ORIGINAL TALE. And it is up to you whether or not you want to read because I saw lots of positive and negative reviews of this book. Just another note, this book isn't that scary and if you want to read it during summer you will probably still enjoy it.

2.5 Stars. A quirky and amusing take on "Alice in Wonderland" + zombies (though a bit lacking on the Lewis Carroll connection). The titular character was a relatable heroine and her best friend Kat provided comic relief, but the romantic lead was a jerk and the zombie situation was ill explained.

My sister recommended this book to me and let my borrow her copy. Normally, I would not pick up a book that was about zombies, let alone was called Alice in Zombieland! But I trust my sister, as we have quite similar taste in books. And I'm super glad that she told me to read it!

I thought this book was fun and intriguing. First of all, I really liked the characters. Sometimes with YA fiction I feel like I'm reading about the same characters over and over. But the characters in this book felt very unique and memorable. I loved Alice. She was such a smart ass! I laughed over many of the things she said and did. And I also felt for her, because she suffered loss, fear, and anger that was very tangible. Kat was hilarious. Not sure I'd have enough energy to have her as a real friend, but she was a hoot. Cole was quite sexy, actually. I was prepared to not like him at all, from his initial description, but I really found myself wanting more of him. He had a personality that I found very drawn to. Alice's grandparents were also so funny and real. My favorite was when they tried to speak teenager.

I really like that Alice was independent and strong willed. Yes, she totally fell for Cole, but she never let his attention or non-attention effect her daily life or her actions. She knew what she wanted, and she went for it, with or without his approval. That was refreshing, as so many YA main characters are kind of ALL about the boy.

The zombies, which I was skeptical about, were a very interesting concept. They certainly creeped me out! I got a little confused with the zombie "lore" a few times, and there were a few things that I feel were unclear. But hopefully there will be more clarity and information to come in the next book, which I am definitely looking forward to!

I was very surprised to love this book. That's always a nice treat, to be surprised into loving a book. But I really did. I can definitely see myself re-reading this book and I am so excited for the next one to come out. If you like action packed YA paranormal/supernatural fiction, I think you would like this book!

While the book is a bit entertaining and pretty much exactly my favourite type of book to read, this novel was just a little too predictable for me and way too preachy. I do not enjoy all the talk of God in it. One thing that made me roll my eyes the most: Cole and his dad go to church? Really......? Doubts!

Girl I thought this was an Alice in wonderland retelling but it’s just a bunch of teen drama. Not the move
