I'm not typically one for zombie novels, but I really did like this one. I'll be tracking down the sequel for sure.

Ok so this was the absolute worst. Should have been a dnf but I didn’t realize until I had already wasted too much time listening to this mess. I don’t even know where to start. Maybe the stuff I liked since there was so little of it?

Consent. The subject of consent was brought up and dealt with appropriately.
That’s it. That’s all I liked. *sigh* Here we go.

First, there is a great disconnect between how Gena thinks teenagers are and how teenagers actually are. I’m convinced she was never one. This felt like it was written by someone whose only interaction with teenagers was what was seen in afterschool specials and corny 90’s tv shows. Everyone was an overexaggerated version of a teenage trope. Speaking of…
All the characters sucked.
-Alice is our main character. She is annoying, ignorant, frustrating, and stubborn. Oh! Did I mention, she’s special and unbelievably attractive? Because she is. -_-
-Emma is Alice’s little sister and she’s 8 but talks and acts like someone much older.
-Cole is the love interest and, let me just say, I’m so tired of this lame image of outcasts that many ya authors have. Tattoos and unnatural hair colors do not make a person a “bad boy” or an “outcast”. Can we try something more original? Onto his personality, it’s a yawn at the best of times. I just finished this and I don’t remember much of him.
-Cat was just as bad. The only good thing was the decent female relationship between her and Alice. Maybe? Minus the ridiculous amount of slut-shaming going on throughout this. I also think there may have been a comment about trans people that was equally disgusting.
-There were some other catty girls and lame bad boys with dumb nicknames. There was a really poor attempt at diversity that fell completely flat because all of the characters of color were props and added no actual significance to the story.

Now the plot, there are zombies, but they are ghost zombies that only a select few can see. So not actual zombies. There are also angels or something similar. The only inkling of an Alice retelling is a white rabbit cloud and the main characters name. I’m shocked that there are three more books in this series. What more can be said on this topic?

I’d like to seek compensation for false advertisement and the, approximately, 10 hours of listening I’ll never get back.

Didn't love it. Huge case of insta-love and sort of reminded me of Twilight. But I've already got the next book so I'll probably continue with the series.

Alice in Zombieland is book #4 in my Halloween Reads Week! I’ve been simply dying to start this book because it sounds pretty amazing, and has gotten really great reviews. Plus, it’s a Harlequin Teen novel, and I never regret reading one of their books.

The main character in the story is Alice Bell. I didn’t really know what to expect from Alice going into the story. I worried that with everything that she had been through, that she was going to be a weak character. I’m super glad to say, Ali totally proved me wrong. Instead she stayed strong and held her ground against the people who wanted to bring her down. I loved her snarky attitude. Ali’s love interest in the story is bad boy Cole Holland. Cole is the tattooed, smexy hot guy that I have come to love in my books. The relationship between these two characters was trying at times, but once they finally give into each other, they are absolutely perfect together.

I have to say that I really love the secondary characters in this book as well. Ali’s best friend, Kat, was a hoot. She definitely made the book more enjoyable for me, even though she was slightly mysterious. I also really love Ali’s grandparents; they were so cute and tried so hard to be ‘in the know’ about their granddaughter. Their use of ‘teen slang’ was pretty comical. I found all of the kids in Cole’s little group to be pretty interesting as well, each for their very own reasons.

I’ve read the Alice in Wonderland books by C.S. Lewis. However, I started Alice in Zombieland not even thinking about this book as an actual retelling. Yes, there were a few references to Alice in Wonderland, but only a small few, and the story was enjoyable just the way it was written.

I also liked that while this was a zombie book, the way the zombies were seen and dealt with were completely different than the other zombie books that I’ve read recently. I found that to be extremely refreshing. I started reading this book really late one night, and I kept telling myself that I would go to bed when I finished the chapter that I was reading. But the story was so addictive that I kept reading and reading well into the night. (Of course, I paid for this the next morning. Yawn.)

Overall; this book was SO good! I enjoyed it so much more than I ever expected to, and now I’m dying to get my hands on the next book. I am going to try to get to it as soon as possible, because I need more Cole! Er, I mean… Alice, Cole and crew. Wink.

Happy Reading!

So, awesome! The only downside is I have to wait a year for the next book!!!

Really great read!! Alice has a lot to deal with and the book is a bit of a rollercoaster!!! I loved that she was not an overly angsty teen!!! Oh, and Kat the BFF is awesome!!! Easily my favorite part of the book!!!

Great narration by Natalie Gold. Really easy to distinguish voices and the story flowed beautifully! I am definitely going to check out other books read by her!!

um i was promised a badass alice in wonderland retelling, not a stereotypical dramatic high school store.

didn't finish but i enjoyed the characters, but alice and her narrating high key bothered me. the writing was good, the plot was not what was advertised. two stars because if this was supposed this was a normal high school story i was would've enjoyed and finished it.

hopes up for nothing.

It was pretty good. Not what I expected. I think I would read the next book.

ELLIOT!!! Dude. If Elliot existed in real life, I would be in heaven. Man, I love her so much. I totally just took her character and… became best friends with it. I don’t know, but she was awesome. True BFF material. I also appreciated the ending (although I cried my heart out after ***** ****!!!!!). In the first book, there was a reasonable ending, hinting at more to come, but not requiring it. In the second book… It was like, WE SHALL ALL DIE!!! THERE IS NO HAPPY ENDING!!! So I really wanted a realistic ending (If you can even call it that in a fantasy book) as far as where the characters’ relationships were, and how the events were going to play out. And I do feel like I got that. Least favorite? Most definitely Jared. He was completely off his rocker. I mean, he’s the one that belongs in a mental institution! (If you haven’t read this book, I promise I have perfectly good reason to say this. I’m not just a mean person. I think promise.) During the first part of the book, I did my best to ignore his less… Redeeming qualities…. Because I thought that he was just a badly-thought-out character (Or something?) that was just one of those YA love interests. Oh boy. NOT. (Also, is it just me, or does If You Say So by Lea Michelle go really well with the end of this book? Of course, that could possibly just be because I love the song because I absolutely love Lea Michelle’s voice.) Guys, I really can’t reveal much of this book because of SPOILERS, but the whole thing was just planned out so well. Hint- there is a good ghost in this book. Who I happen to love to death. And the bad one… Much different and ten times scarier than the ones from past books! Seriously, that ending though. Okay, this makes no sense. I apologize for wasting thirty seconds of your life by making you read this. And this. And this.
See it on my blog: https://abookwormsperfectapple.wordpress.com/2016/02/05/i-disappeared-what-a-magician/#more-3038

I'm not a huge fan of zombies and I thought this was going to be an Alice in Wonderland retelling, which it definitely is not. Even though I hate love triangles and teenage high school drama I actually really enjoyed reading this. I guess I have officially fallen down the rabbit hole and lost my mind but it was different and I liked it.
