I found Alice in Zombieland to be a unique take on zombies, a way to make them into an urban fantasy myth and not a dystopian future novel. This was clever and innovative. That, combined with the Alice in Wonderland nuances made for an interesting read.
Ali grew up sheltered by her parents, believing her father was crazy because he saw monsters that no one else saw. He wouldn't let them go out at night, they had to learn to defend themselves, he patrolled the house, and drank himself into oblivion. Then, an accident changes everything for Ali. She learns that her father was right, that the monsters are real and she becomes determined to fight them.
The book combined Ali's new reality with knowing that zombies exist, trying to fit into a new high school and life, her new best friend, and falling for the badder than bad boy in the school. There is lots of drama around who likes who and social cliques. I felt the voice was probably pretty true to teenaged life, but, at times, it was also a bit much. Maybe it's just me, but I get tired of the gorgeous, uncommunicative, moody, irresistible love interest and the girl who puts up with it.
I am honestly torn with this book. I liked the paranormal aspects and how the zombies were portrayed, how Ali was determined to be strong and fight for herself, the relationship between Ali and her friend Kat, and the realism of Ali's devastation. However, I found Ali's relationship with Cole (the bad boy) predictable (except there was no real triangle, maybe that will be in the next book), and I wanted more Alice in Wonderland-y aspects to the book.
Overall, I think teens, especially girls, will like this book, but those looking for a meaty zombie book may be disappointed. It will be interesting to see where the author takes this series.

Quite happy with this book. I was pretty hesitant about it, being named Alice in Zombieland and all; but I really liked the story line, the characters, and the struggles (especially towards the end of the book!) moving on to Through the Zombieglass
So you all know by now I Judge books by their covers, I loved the title and The cover of this book since I first saw it last year, but for some unknown reason I just never got around to buying it. I was doing my usual stalk of Harlequin Australia on Friday night and saw the second book in The White Rabbit Chronicles was coming out, So it was the kick in the but I needed to buy this book, and boy I am glad I did. I ignored everyone on Sunday and read it in one sitting. (I didn’t even notice that the kids had opened the back door and let my beloved bird fly away :( . But anyway that is another story)
Alice in Zombie land was nothing like I thought it would be, some bizarre retelling of Alice in wonderland with zombie’s thrown in. Instead I got a riveting story about a young girl named Alice who lives stuck in her house with her mentally Ill father who is terrified by imaginary monsters.
Alice convinces her father to let them all go to her little sisters dance recital at night, when they are normally never allowed out after dark. In one tragic moment Alice loses her whole family in a terrible car crash and is thrown into the same madness that her father suffered from.
I love how Gena makes you feel so deeply with Alice, the pain and the loss of her family that turns to Vengeance. Even the Zombies aren’t what you expect them to be. Gena’s unique theory is that they are actually infected souls that feed off human souls, and only a few special people can see the monsters.
Alice Teams up with a Kick ass crew that are also able to see the zombies and train each night to go out and destroy them.
Alice in zombie land is a unique and on the edge of your seat debut for a new series, and I am glad that I held off reading this book so now I won’t be tormented for as long to enjoy Alice through the Zombie glass which is released next month.

My Take: I really really enjoyed this book! The writing is so engaging that I was almost drawn into Ali’s world. There were times when I wanted to (and did) scream at some of the characters for being mean to her. There were when I screamed at Cole for being so…male! Kat made me laugh out loud almost every time she spoke! And Ali’s grandparents with their slang just made my day.
Oh and the zombies! Have I told you that I love zombies!? Not in an “I think they are so cute” kind of way. It’s more like I LOVE killing zombies in video games kind of way, and now I love reading about people kicking some zombie butt! I’m not going to lie, it helps that the zombie killing group is full of hunks and that Cole is the lead hunk. I just love how bossy he is and I love it more that Ali doesn't take his crap!
My ONLY problem with this book and I hate to even really call it a problem but it was enough for me not to give it a full 5 cups of Joe……. The ending. I knew it was a sequel going in so I know that there had to be some level of open-end-ness (yes I just made up a word) coming. To me the whole ending felt rushed and sort of thrown together. It was slightly anti-climactic just because it all seemed to happen to fast compared to the pace of the rest of the book.
Wrap up: What a great read! I am so glad I read this book! It’s one of my first zombie books since I have decided that they rock and I was not at all disappointed with way they were portrayed in this book. It was fun yet serious and extremely engaging all at the same time! If you like zombies, butt kicking, and teen love you will LOVE this book! Even though I found the ending rushed and slightly disappointing, I have already put my hold on the next book Through the Zombie Glass because I need to know what happens next!
My Rating:4.5

OMG. Fabulous!
I've read a lot of mixed reviews regarding this book, but I absolutely loved it. I though Alice (Ali) was definitely a kick ass heroine who held her own in this new and terrifying world. And Cole - yum! He is definitely one of the better YA love interests and I would not kick him out of my bed for eating cookies... but I digress.
While I did think the whole zombie/Alice in Wonderland thing was misleading, as a whole I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was a fun/light read and it held my attention. The dialogue is humorous, the story line interesting, and I found myself having a hard time pulling myself away from the plot once I picked up the book.
I thought overall that Alice held herself really well and those times she did need Cole's help, you can't blame her. She was brand new to the world of zombies, she's not going to come out guns blazing right away - even with the training her dad gave her.
There were times when Cole would tell her to protect herself and stay out of the fight, but when she saw someone needed help, she jumped to help and didn't think twice.
This series is definitely worth your time. You won't regret it!

Meh. I really don't get the rave reviews on this one. I feel like it's a lot of "been there, done that." The characters were cookie cutter impressions of teens and I think the only one I liked was the little sister, Emma. How sad is that? I also wish that there'd been more nods to Alice in Wonderland or a completely different title altogether.
Am Anfang war ich etwas skeptisch, aber das Buch war genial.
Toller schreibst, gut umgesetzte Idee und hübsche Jungs 😄

I really loved this book the romance the unique take on Zombies I have never came across anything quite like that. I really liked the characters especially Alice and Cole their romance was so well written I liked that Alice was the I do what I like and you can't stop me type it made for a great dynamic. What I really liked about Alice even through all the pain she has suffered she is strong and does not let anything keep her down. I also really liked many of the other characters like Kat she makes for an amazing best friend always is on Alice's side no matter what. I really liked the plot it started out with a tragedy moves on to a great romance and a really action packed story that I really loved.
