This was fun. I bought the second and third books and haven’t gotten through them. I started the second one for a minute but didn’t continue for a reason I can’t remember. This was very much a YA book and I can’t be hard on it. If I had read this at 14 it wouldve been 5 stars but as an adult, it was clearly building to multiple books and the relationship happened too soon in my opinion. Now the only options to further their character is cringy tropes or like… death and I’m not really into that for this world and the people in it. I might donate the three I have to a little library for someone else to enjoy but I did really enjoy this first one. The action was well paced from what I remember. (Writing this three years later isn’t helping) A lot of the romance felt like it was very middle school coded. I’m all about stories where I can suspend my disbelief and just let whatever weird shit is happening just go but there were a couple… like the very first interaction. I don’t remember exactly what happened but I remember being like ‘this is where you’re going with this story lady? Alright. Lemme buckle in’. I feel like someone was in a tree at some point and I remember liking that chapter. The spooks are something else too. I absolutely love an underground militia and it’s fun in this one. That’s really the word for this book or my experience with it. It was just fun.
I've had this on my TBR shelf for awhile now. I was hesitant to start it because I wasn't sure a retelling that involved zombies would be to my liking. But surprise, surprise! I absolutely enjoyed this book!
Alice Bell was quirky, kickass and extremely likable. I loved her loyalty and spunky attitude. Of course, I also loved the visions she shared with Cole (and Cole, in general). Then there was Kat (a.k.a. Mad Dog), she was witty and amusing. She's like the best friend I've always wanted.
And the plot was exciting! I was surprised that it was set in modern society but it still worked out well. I can't wait to uncover more zombie secrets with Ali in the next installment.

Begins well but within a few chapters the storyline becomes ambiguous. The writing structure is rather illogical and difficult to follow. After reading the entire novel I understand the general progression of the story. Many of the details, however, were lost in a jumble of unwarranted drama. Character decisions repeatedly arose randomly, without discernible cause in the previous action leading to subsequent action that was also random and without foundation in the story.
This read grabbed me from the beginning and had me to the end. It reminded me of Twilight in that way. This is not an Alice in Wonderland with zombies story, as the title could lead people to think. I thoroughly enjoy it! Fast-paced, romantic, heartbreaking, and violent... I can't wait to read the sequel!
This started off really good, and managed to have a pretty creepy atmosphere. But once she joins the zombie hunter group, I lost a bit of interest. I also don't really care for the romantic interest all that much.
This was much different than what I was expecting. The zombies are not... of the typical sort. Or really zombies, at all. But yeah, it was still enjoyable. I might read the sequel.
Spoiler
but rather corpses re-animated by evil spirits. I don't count that as a zombie
This is a good quick teen read, esp if you're not expecting Alice in Wonderland because the only things similar are the white rabbit and the name Alice.
