A collection of short stories by Oscar Wilde. Essentially they are children's fairytales but although they appear very simple on one level, from an adult perspective you can go a little deeper to explore the symbolism and appreciate the satire and wit. Although they are moral tales, they don't come across as preachy. I found most of them quite sad although in an uplifting kind of way.   The Happy Prince in particular broke my heart! The Remarkable Rocket, a quirky tale about talking fireworks, however, is full of Wilde's amusing one-liners.  The stories are beautifully written with such tenderness and poignancy and they leave a lasting impression.

some stories are great, and some plot twists are frustrating, the good kind of frustrating. the ending of the star-child especially irks me. we can be hopeful for a not-so tragic ending, but Oscar Wilde won't let us sit idly with a happy ever after kind of fairy tale. not that i hate it, he only wrapped up everything with a healthy dosage of reality. anw, the long description bored me, in spite of being beautifully written, and it didn't touch me personally. it's still a nice read, 3-3.5 stars

These bitter, satirical, slightly morally corrupt are bound to be bedtime stories for my future children.

A lot of the stories felt like a conglomerate of prior stories melded into one with a stamp of Christian theology. Perhaps this was solely my perspective on the matter. However, the stories were still enjoyable, and found they were a great way to take up time.
