This book is highly unique in the way that it is written. I loved the way it continuously looped back and taught a new life lesson with each 'millionaire' question. Great story.

I just wrote a mega essay that was deleted so some highlights:
- homophobia problem
- bad ending
- entertaining story
- interesting social commentary
- it looks like whoever in my village that left this at the second-hand sale wiped their bum with it...if you want pictures just ask xx

I read this awhile ago and now re-read (or rather, listened) to the book on cd with Rich during out trip to Pasco this month. I enjoyed it so much more this time (The title has been changed to "Slum-dog Millionaire," as it is the book that the movie was adapted from) listening with Rich because he was enjoying it so much. The narrator did a fabulous job with all the accents, which added to the enjoyment.

I borrowed this book from the library, and it was one of those rare times where I saw the movie before reading the book.
In this book, Ram Mohammad Thomas grew up as a poor orphan. Nevertheless, Ram lands a spot on "Who Will Win a Billion," and, to everyone's surprise, makes it all of the way through to the end without missing any questions. Ram is suspected of cheating, and he is arrested. The story then becomes Ram telling his attorney how he knew each of the answers to the questions.
I must mention that I love the Movie Slumdog Millionaire. I can watch it over and over again with the same pleasure as when I first saw it. I was hoping for the same kind of enjoyment with the book, but I cannot say that it met my expectations.
The book is very, very different than the movie. While the premise of growing up in the slums and ending up on the show are the same, the stories and relationships in the book are very different than the movie. The stories were just as tragic, but some of them went on too long and seemed to get away from the point at times. There were several times that I wanted to skip ahead and past some of the stories, but I read all the way through them. I was about ready to give this book two stars, until I got to the end and the little twist redeemed the book somewhat.
I would not necessarily say pass on this one, but do not expect it to be much like the movie, especially if you liked the movie.
