I shouldve seen it coming? It was a fun, fast paced read but it had me wanting to scream at the characters. It definitely felt like a less thought out and not as intricately woven version of agggtm, which was a 5 star series for me soooo..I sped through it but looking back I'm extremely underwhelmed bc what was that plot twist???

3.75⭐️ It was super intriguing but I feel like this was the whole book: mystery solved, oh wait it’s someone else, mystery solved, got the wrong person again. Something about the plot fell flat for me. Also after reading AGGGTM this felt like a worse version of it

Everything except the ending I enjoyed. The intensity was there, and it was certainly a page-turner. The reveal of Ethan was especially fun!

Tyler's motive for killing Emma is so stupid. You kill a girl just to have something to write about for your college essays? I like the idea of Tyler being the murderer; it's the obvious choice (and even Olivia comments on it herself: "It's always the boyfriend"), so it was cool when it actually was him.

But yeah. The ending, and Tyler's motive, really soured the whole book for me.

I shouldn't talk shit because this author is such an expert at writing, right? Oh well. I'm gonna talk shit.

The Ivies is about a group of girls at an elite boarding school that would kill to go to their dream ivy league school. That is until someone actually does kill for it.

God this was so cringy and just a mess. The dialogue is awful and the story is slow as hell. The writing was full CW bad and it was PAINFUL. Everything is so obvious and then most of the book is just some weird narrative about rich people vs poor but without actually making sense or the meaningful message the author was trying to get. I guess? Literally have no idea what the hell the author was trying to do.

This book was 100% trying to cop that [b:One of Us Is Lying|32571395|One of Us Is Lying (One of Us is Lying, #1)|Karen M. McManus|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1490084494l/32571395._SY75_.jpg|49825436] bread which is hilarious because that book was a joke too but this one managed to be even worse. The motive for the killer and everything the characters do was simply dumb. The MC spends much of the book dicking around and not figuring anything out and even when she does figure one thing out, she doesn't SOLVE anything. Maybe give the evidence riddled phone to the cop who shows up around every corner instead of basically throwing it away and looking guilty yourself, idk.

It was so boring having her as the MC, no joke. She's left out of a lot of things in her friend group because she's... poor? Like okay but it would have been much more interesting having the MC be one of the asshole rich kids instead of generic ass YA MC #6. Also this book was weirdly homophobic??

There's a detective in this who kept showing up at random times, trying to have a heart to heart with the MC about how "they aren't like us". It was just so weird and unprofessional like sis do your job instead of being weird to the poor girl in school.

For some reason the author had this stupid fucking idea to name drop Covid for a one off comment and it pissed me off so much and ruined my entire day. There is absolutely no need to mention that shit, especially when it's literally a throw away line that does nothing. I speak for myself but I know there are others but I have trauma and any book that mentions that will get an instant 1 star. Sorry bestie but I read to escape and I do not want to be reminded.

Don't worry though, I was already going to rate this 1 star for being awful with terrible plot, writing, and characters but the random name drop was just icing on the 1 star. Also the ending was lame and I don't think the author has ever watched one episode of Law and Order.

Did not like the main character at all. She was pathetic, spineless and as catty as the other girls. Plot felt jumbled and not well paced.
