I really wanted to like this book...the cover made me read it...but for some reason I just felt so disconnected with the plot and the characters...I just didn't care at all what was happening and the ending felt stupid...

Maybe I shouldn't have picked it up after The Girls Are All So Nice Here...since that one was about college as well...this one felt so YA and as I was reading it...I remembered how much I despise when a teenager solves the case insted of an actual trained person with experience and everything needed at disposal...I really need to start reading the synopsis from now on...

It made me think of A Good Girls Guide to Murder and Truly Devious...2 books that I did not like as well...

This is a YA mystery that follows a group of girls called the Ivies at an elite prep school.  Their mission is to get into an Ivy League, but to avoid  fierce competition with one another, they each have agreed to apply to a different Ivy League school.  They also do some not so honest things to increase their odds against the competition.  When one of them ends up dead, the police take the investigation one direction, but Olivia, our main character, takes it upon herself to explore other avenues.  I got some Truly Devious vibes from this (elite school, main character investigating a murder).  I enjoyed this a decent amount, and while I at first thought it was going to be predictable, it actually wasn't.  The twist at the end got me.  The reason that the victim ends up dead-not one you'd easily guess.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a rollicking good time. I'm really not a thriller person but I follow Alexa Donne on Youtube and the passion with which she talked about American college admission made me immensely curious. While this is not my favourite book ever it was full of twists and turns that kept me surprised at every turn. The weakest part of the book for me was the writing style, which was perfectly serviceable but not my favourite.

I highly recommend this book if your looking for something fun, twisty and only slightly melodramatic college admissions plots.
