definitely what i like in a premise. the plot was entertaining enough, purely because of all the drama. i also thought the writing was good, and 300 pages is just the right length for a story like this. what i didn't like ... the reason why i call the plot entertaining enough is the fact that i predicted every twist, and also the very disappointing ending. it was enough to make me keep reading, but not enough to surprise me or to live up to the fact that this is a thriller. i also thought the character development could've been better. this especially applies to olivia, it feels like the author just threw her into the story to do some badly executed commentary on wealth and class.

what i expected: a dark academia book about five girls who would literally commit murder to get into an ivy league school

what i got: a book full of plot-holes, a poorly-executed murder, and covid references (*gags*)

^also one of the girls slept with her stepbrother (and just when you thought it couldn’t get worse: her stepbrother went on to date her best friend

I just didn't care about the characters or what story they might have to tell. The writing was well done, but the book wasn't for me.

Murder? Check. Backstabbing? Definitely. Sabotage? Also true! This one was a fun read and I couldn't nail down the who dunit until the end. Would recommend if you enjoy YA.

My rating system:
5 ⭐ = Great story, loved it, would definitely recommend
4 ⭐ = Good story, enjoyed it, worth the read
3 ⭐ = Okay story, some predictable parts, it was fine
2 ⭐ = Lame story, boring, kept losing interest
1 ⭐ = Terrible story, couldn't finish
