This book got really weird, really fast. Gave me the Ick.
It doesn’t matter that the kid is 18. This is too f-d up for me to read. So creepy. I want to know the resolution to the mystery but not badly enough to read about grooming/pedophilia/whatever this is turning out to be.

I love all the books I’ve read by Elin Hilderbrand but this is one of her older ones and her writing has definitely gotten better over the years. This was an ok read but the ending left me a little disappointed .
Meh
This is an early Hilderbrand and it showed with the lack of character development. Why was the daughter Cassidy B. when no other child had an initial? That was irritating throughout, as was Kayla who I never grew to like. I loved Theo though and wish there had been fewer characters and more delving into him.

Spoiler
Could the police investigation be any more poorly written? No one would take the daughter or the ex husband's testimony as gospel, nor would Kayla have been allowed off island. So poor as to be almost unbelievable even within the realm of fiction. And why spend so much time on Raoul's crew when he was going to lose the Ting job so quickly? Glad a fictional character wasn't dead, but that ending was woof.

I’ve read most of Elin Hildebrand’s books and usually enjoy them but this was an exception. All of the characters are so shallow and so flawed and just downright mean.
It centers around 3 friends who are so selfish and mean to each from the very start that it’s hard to even understand the power they say this friendship has. The main character Kayla is duped over and over again.
Definitely my least favorite of Elon’s books thus far. Try Hotel Nantucket if you want classic Elin Hildebrand at her best.
SPOILER….
Also, the character of Antoinette having sex with and getting pregnant by her friend’s 18 year old son is totally despicable and atrocious and while the book never said it was a “good” thing, it also tried to understand it which is pretty gross.
