This was not one of her best books but it was an interesting quick read.

I found this plot disturbing, though the resolution was satisfying to an extent. I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend, unless they were specifically looking for a quick read with an edge of mystery. It’s something a bit different from Hilderbrand, but she she has many books that I like more, with characters that are not developed entirely of flaws.
Ugh. I do normally like EH’s books but she cannot write about people of color. The person the book’s mystery is around is black, and she’s also the duplicitous seductress of an 18 year old. The racism is obvious. The way the author treats that relationship is also pretty tasteless. Yes the character was 18 but I don’t think enough was said about how gross and inappropriate their relationship was.
Also what is EH’s beef with abortion? She doesn’t approach the topic with nuance at all.

Nice read, not much to it, but enjoyable nevertheless.
A very weak four stars. I vacillated between three and four, landing on four because of the compelling readability that I always find in a Hilderbrand book. Recognizing that we are all flawed, and no friendships are truly perfect, there were still aspects of this book that I found to be a stretch in a 20 year old female friendship. Part of me understands the ending, but much was left unsatisfied.
