Why do so many of Lisa Jackson's books feature a finely-muscled man/villain who likes to do stuff in the nude? And female victims who wake up (in the nude, of course) at the killer's mercy? And why does she have a pathological obsession with the word "damn"? It's intriguing.

This was better than usual for a Lisa Jackson book, but I was pondering those questions more than I was anything to do with the plot!

Nice! A solid 4 for the second in the McGanity series. Jack Garrett and Laura McGanity have moved from London to Lancashire and are trying to establish themselves as a new family unit with Laura’s son, Bobby, while establishing their careers as reporter and detective inspector. The plot revolves around a summer of child snatching, people who dream alarming premonitions, and a murder. Together with a bucketful of red herrings, enough heart stopping moments and all round great character development, Fallen Idols is a satisfying page turner!

Kristi Bentz, daughter to New Orleans Detective Rick Bentz is heading back to college. She has enrolled as a student at All Saints College. A college that has been made famous not for the teachers or classes but because four women have all gone missing in a eighteen month span. The police believe the women are runaways.

Kristi wants to write a true crime novel. When she hears about the missing women, she decides to do some investigate work. Kristi learns that all of the women attended the same class with Dr. Dominic Grotto. Dr. Grotto teaches a class on vampyrism. One of Kristi's old classmates, Lucretia Stevens tells Kristi about how she suspects one of the girls...a Rylee was in a cult. Now Kristi is really intrigued. What is Dr. Grotto's connection to the missing women and could he be a vampire?

The only person Kristi can get to believe her that the women did not go missing on their own is her ex-boyfriend, Jay McKnight. As Kristi gets closer to uncovering the truth, it brings her just one more step closer to evil himself.

It was great to see Kristi and Rick Bentz back again. Detective Bentz is one of the most famous and one of my favorite detectives around. He may come off hard as nails but that is only because he really cares about the ones around him and would do everything he could to keep them protected. Lost Souls still featured Rick but this time he stepped out of the picture to let Kristi shine. Kristi definetly takes after her father. I liked this more supernatural approach that Mrs. Jackson took with Lost Souls but with still keeping in her usual fashion of producing a good thriller. All I have to say is when Rick Bentz is involved, no one inculding vampires stand a chance. Lost Souls leaves the reader with a cliff hanger that leading right into Malice the next book from Lisa.

What can I say? I am sucker for these types of books as easy reads. I like Bentz novels. However I found myself saying "come on Kristi" more than once in this book. For someone who has been through hell and back by the hands of killers in the past Kristi is just plain dense.

I did like the Jay and Kristi romance.

I read this as a stand alone novel and have actually read books 6 and 7 of this series all as stand alone novels as well.

Really enjoyed this one! The mystery was a good one, and I liked the main characters. My only complaint is that it had too many side stories in it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for this romantic suspense that had potential (and too much time to achieve it) but fell flat. I wanted to love this book SO much. I love the premise, the setting was atmospheric, student/teacher and second chance tropes sounded great. This book was just too damn long. Almost 500 pages. Hero/heroine don’t run into each other until page like pg 120. It’s SLOWWWW. Not a lot of chemistry or building to the relationship. It was just unsatisfactory as a romance

Spannend verhaal met een mythisch kantje aan, én in een geweldige omgeving. Leuk ook om personages uit de voorgaande delen vanuit een ander perspectief te zien!
