A by-the-numbers suspense novel that is at least 100 pages too long. Too bad, because Jackson shows she knows how to tell a story. This tale of a cop's daughter who decides to investigate the disappearance of several college classmates and a vampiric cult on campus is surprisingly dull.

A pretty decent romantic thriller - not my favorite book, but entertaining mind candy.

Admittedly, the thought of our heroine now targeted three times by serial killers strains credulity, it doesn't do so any more than Patricia Cornwell's book where Kay Scarpetta and team are constantly being beaten, burned, or otherwise mutilated by same. If you're willing to go along with Scarpetta then this shouldn't be a problem.

My only other quibble is with location. This is labeled as part of the author's New Orleans series, but it takes place in Baton Rouge - definitely not New Orleans. Aside from the fact that they are about 80 miles (or an hour and a half or so) apart, they are also very different in feel and in culture - among other things Baton Rouge didn't really start growing until 1910 so it's a much younger city.

All told, though, this was a decent read in the category of what I like to call grocery store books. These are the cheap paperbacks that they sell with the magazines at your local grocery store. You buy them because you want something trashy and entertaining to read - the literary equivalent of sour cream and onion potato chips.

I got this as a strip cover return from work. Basically booksellers strip covers off some returns and then toss out the rest of the book. Usually you're supposed to destroy them, but I figured it was my last day so I took a bunch home. :P

ANYWAY.

So I read this. I think it's part of a series because they kept referring to something that happened prior to this story being told. It was alright, but fairly predictable. I'm not going to get into details but it was the kind of book that you would read on a long car trip or a bus or a plane. Something to pass your eyes over and not really stimulate your brain.

It was okay. Not fantastic. Not abysmal. But okay.

Took me a while to get in to but once I was there, it was good. Not Chris Carter good but certainly kept me reading.

This story follows a protagonist by the name of Kristi Bentz. The daughter of a cop, aspiring true crime writer and amateur detective. Our heroine sets out to enroll at a university where four missing girls with troubled pasts are thought to be victims of an underground vampire cult on campus but many including their families assume they're just runaways.
This book was a crazy ride. It was suspenseful, creepy and packed with action. Somehow I always ended up picking up this book during the night which made the reading experience more spooky for me. The setting was depicted well; it was in a way that didn’t bombard the reader with heaps of unnecessary detail nor did I have to struggle with figuring out what the places could look or feel like. I did, however find some parts to be too explicit and could've done without them. It was just unnecessary. That’s why I docked two stars off. This is my first time reading Lisa Jackson's work so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of writing style and content. I also noticed a lot of repetition which annoyed me but I didn't focus too much on it. The characters were interesting, some more compelling than others. I'm still deciding if I like Kristi or not. Her determination and passion for justice is admirable but man, it was frustrating whenever she put herself in harm’s way and not inform Jay McKnight her whereabouts or plans. Overall, a very creepy read.

Wow. This book kept me on my toes. It was full of plot twist and an ending that was simply brillant! I just couldn't put it down! The book can get a little confusing because it changes characters in a flash. I only wish I read the first two books before I read this one. I well looking for more Lisa Jackson books in the future!

It's been a year and a half since Kristie Bentz's coma. She's ready to go back to All Saints College and has registered for winter classes. Her desire to become a crime writer prompts her interest in the four missing coeds, one of which lived in her very apartment before she went missing.

Teaching one of her classes is Jay McKnight, a high school sweetheart she dumped in a previous book. He also has been working in the New Orleans crime lab. They team up to uncover clues that tie the missing women to a dark vampire cult on campus. What they don't realize is the killer knows of Kristie's every move and has from the day she arrived on campus.

I am making it my mission in 2017 to finish this series I forgot how much I loved these characters
