I received an advance copy of this book with Indiespensable #66.

The first 2/3 of the book had me totally hooked. In fact, when I started reading it, I read through the first third in one sitting. The following day, I tore through the next third. I contemplated staying up that night to finish it. Then, it completely lost steam. I had to force myself through the last 40 or so pages.

In the beginning, I looked past the writing style (which was short, choppy, and repetitive in some places, long and rambling in others) because the story was so interesting and creepy. I felt unsettled while reading and I liked that feeling. However, as I continued reading, it seemed less and less likely that the writer was going to deliver any sort of satisfying ending and I found myself wondering if I would have begun the book at all if I had known it was going to build up to nowhere. Sure enough, there was no recognizable climax and the book ended hastily, leaving me with so many unanswered questions. I can tolerate a few loose ends at the conclusion of a book. There is nothing wrong with allowing the reader to imagine how some things turn out, but at the end of this book I felt like I had learned nothing about what was really going on in this house and with these characters.

I would not recommend this book. It gets two stars instead of one because the first 2/3 entertained me.

Well wow. This book from the start is already intriguing in its own kind of immediate foreshadowing way. The character portrayal and down to earth real emotions are expressed very well. The thoughts and raw expressions between the two main perpesctives are engaging and
Satisfying.
.
I feel like the book touched perfectly on the already horror concept of the haunted house prospect very well. As well as it did with satisfying my horror portion, it gave many very real and emotional interactions between a couple and their trying to keep a relationship lasting with all of the horrors around them, continuing to worsen and become more disturbing.
.
The disturbing scenes and words that come out of the characters true colors as the book goes on are gut-wrenching. The beginning to turn on one another and spiraling down into madness makes you want to see whatโ€™s next, makes you want to know more. I really enjoyed this book and it was one of the very few that have made me feel uneasy in my own room.

This book gave me all the spooky vibes I was looking for. It does have an abrupt ending but I still feel satisfied with where they're at in the last chapter.

This was on track to be a very rare 5* book except towards the end โ€” I loved everything to do with the house/s, property, forest, cave but didnโ€™t like how it extended to the friend's house. Where was he staying while she was in the hospital, and why didnโ€™t he get worse? Still loved it though, and the descent into madness.
