alright fiiine i'll keep reading the series

Giving this 3 stars was a difficult decision and I feel like all the booktok girls are gonna come at me, but it is what it is.

I definitely didn’t like this. It dragged on and took me a while to finish. It was just okay..

These books are a little bit overrated in my opinion. The first one was amazing but I think the author dropped the ball during the second and third and got way to in over her head. Or had AI write the book for her because this one seems to be by a totally different author than the first two.

I also read all three books back to back, and I was still confused by some names and places being named dropped. I feel like the author could’ve done a better job explaining who was who and the dragons names and the different towns and what not. Too many needless characters and locations mentioned.

The way this book ended is how I expected it to begin. So you’re telling me there’s gonna be a whole other fourth book where there’s no plot furthering? Just Xaden and Violet confessing their love every ten minutes while also bickering? And going on pointless side quests and having little political meetings, and getting mad at anyone who disagrees with them?

Only thing I liked about this book was Ridoc. I’m still confused on their magic laws and how it works. I feel like a lot is just skipped over. For example, lesser magic and runes. Did they go to class to learn this? They can just unlock doors with a flick of their wrists? And why is Violet so wishy washy? First she doesn’t want to keep secrets, then she’s head over heels for a man turning Venin and doesn’t listen to his warnings to stay away. Like girl, you’re so annoying. It’s giving, “he’s different when it’s just me and him I swear!” And Sex isn’t good without your magic? That’s just weird. Or it’s not as good as you thought it was and you need magic to makeup for it. Plus all the spicy scenes after that first armoire incident have been mid and repetitive.

I don’t see how this could be a five book series. I also think it’s just a money grab scheme if they’re already working on a live action television series when the book series isn’t even done. It’s like the author is just trying to push out anything even if it’s not good just to have content for people to get their hands on.

Some parts of the book felt rushed like we skipped important information and there were too many time jumps. And some parts were unnecessary and dragged on. The entire book was honestly way too predictable too.

I just feel like a whole lot of nothing happened.

I really enjoyed the third book in this series. I was also exhausted and tired and confused by the end, much like Violet Sorrengail. 😂

There were so many trips and battles (battle of wits, battle between leaders and Violet/Xaden +team, etc) that I started feeling like I was on a journey with Ang the Last Airbender. I got lost in several places. A lot of new characters were introduced, I felt like I could figure out who was important to remember and who I could forget because so many of them kept appearing!

I appreciated the different POV chapters in the last battle but tbh, I got confused more because I didn't know what was happening with Violet.

There was also a lot of use of "she" and "him" which got confusing because Yarros used if vaguely during dreams and battles and sometimes I felt like those pronouns were supposed to be Violet and Xaden but then they were for other characters.

I was left with A LOT of questions at the end. Aric, Sloan, Imogen,  "don't come looking for me. they're yours now." And then "What You asked me to." And. BAM THE END?! 😮‍💨

I was a little bummed with the less sexy time we saw with V and X because in Iron Flame we had some good scenes but Violet was annoying. This time around we got Xaden being cautious, which is amazing and sweet but also, there was a moment for a great throne scene that was just glossed over... And with all the battles and all the fights and all the twists and turns, it would have been nice to have a second throne scene.

I was very confused with the final chapter because there's gaps I Violet's memory and I'm confused on what time means, like how many days has it been or has it really only been hours? I don't want to wait a year for the next book but. . . That's really up to me. I am impatiently waiting for the next book. 🐉 📚
