I did enjoy the last instillation of the Empyrean series. The characters are pretty well fleshed out by now and you do care about them. You get used to the constant looming of death (or Malek) so the apprehension is always there, although, when it does happen it does not feel like a stomach punch. Which is mildly underwhelming in my opinion.
The writing and prose is fine. English is not my native language and I believe I would be more prone to feel troubled by it if I was a more adequate English speaker.
Violet’s character is much more “pleasant” and complex in Onyx Storm than in the previous books. Which does make me happy- otherwise I don’t know if I would continue reading the series. Because I found her to be rather annoying in the past… Her lover, Xaden, is a complex guy and his path is very interesting to follow so I do wish we’d have learned more, a chapter or so in his pov would be nice.
It’s a lovely, exciting and thrilling book,but still a tad bit silly. I do recommend the series for anyone enjoys an adventure with dragons, romance, fighting, magic and alchemy. It’s a charming series and it does leave you wanting more.
I will buy the next book!

I was unbelievably excited for this book & was so so disappointed with it. I would definitely reread the first two but not this one.

my least favourite in the series so far. i found myself quite bored at times, and the pacing was all over the place.
plus, all the fake out deaths got on my nerves (ridoc, garrick, mira). when it happens too much it takes away any suspense when a main character is in danger.
Quite difficult to follow and feels lazy to leave a book on a cliff hanger when you haven’t started the next one!!
