Here’s a list of why:
- violet’s entire personality (if you can even call it that) over the three books is “im short” and “omg xadenn”
- the entire plot is unoriginal and predictable
- all side characters are underdeveloped: we are privy to every little detail of Violet’s backstory, but know close to nothing about other important characters’ pasts (Rhiannon, Ridoc, Garrick, Melgren, Imogen, etc.)
- I don’t mind smut every once in a while or when it’s relevant or makes sense in the story, but Yarros either makes the most random excuses to get the main characters in a bed together, or doesn’t bother at all and throws an obscene chapter at us thinking we’re just a bunch of cheap horny readers who only read for smut.
- i could go on and on, but I’ll spare you the long read. Just take my word for it. This is not a good series.

All in all I liked the plot, especially the quest part on the isles had a cool vibe like a treasure hunt with different stations.
But slowly I think I had enough of all the push and pulls from the relationship of Violet and Xaden. And the story starts feeling too long, for me a trilogy would have been enough.
Aaand I'm starting to lose track over all the characters and their signets; the traitor - who's that person again? Rings a bell, but still needed to look him up
