So far this has been my least favorite book of this series. It jumped between new characters before they were fully introduced and the lack of information to the reader was kinda confusing. Still a fan of the series so I have lots of hope for the next book!

Very slow to start for me; felt like it didn’t pick up until halfway through. It also felt like about a dozen new threads were thrown at us with no resolution on any of them, but I’ll chalk that up to a middle-book issue.  Still fun, though!

This book is EVERYTHING. Honestly, the reread hit even harder because apparently first time around I was blind and missed about 47 details Rebecca Yarros left like neon signs. This woman is a mastermind. Six stars. Pure perfection.

Onyx Storm picks up right where Iron Flame ripped my heart out and stomped on it. Bigger battles. Higher stakes. Dragons being dramatic (and I live for it). Violet and Xaden making the most impossible choices and somehow still managing to be ridiculously hot while doing it. Political chaos, betrayal, heartbreak—you know, just another Tuesday at Basgiath.

Xaden? Still my number two book boyfriend. He’s not budging from that spot and honestly he knows why. Andarna, Tairn, and Sgaeyl? Actual icons. I’d die for them, no hesitation. And Ridoc… this man is comedic gold. Every time he opens his mouth I cackle like a lunatic. Protect him at all costs.

What I love most is how this series makes me feel like I’m doing detective work while crying. You HAVE to pay attention, connect dots, and then bam—your brain explodes because it all comes together. 10/10 recommend the emotional damage.

Rebecca Yarros, ma’am, how dare you be this good. Six stars, zero regrets, and I already want to reread it again because apparently once a masochist, always a masochist.
