I loved the idea of this book but the timelines confused me somewhat and seemed to jump around with no warning.
I loved seeing the idea of being a pop star from childhood right through to becoming a pop star and the parts you never see, it was a really interesting concept and the storylines kept me wanting more. I wished that Amber wanted more for herself and didn’t allow herself to be hidden away or made to feel like she didn’t deserve love and was glad when she finally made the decision to move on. I just felt that some parts of the story were skipped and got a little confused about where I was up to with Amber’s life. There were some important issues that were brought up but never explored or spoken about again, which would have been really good to explore with the characters.
As someone who is a fan of having multimedia in books, the ones added to this were confusing and didn’t add anything to the story and sometimes just felt like the were repeating what I had just read or didn’t tell me anything in the slightest that was relevant. I also didn’t like the amount of song lyrics that were written into the book, either the songs seemed extremely short or the lyrics were just very repetitive and I didn’t see that they actually added anything to the story for me personally.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read though and I would be interested in reading more of Isabel’s books, and would even enjoy a book from Gwen’s point of view!

This feels like a fictionalized version of Britney Spears and Jessica Simpsons memoirs. It felt very melancholy, but maybe that's just because i'm old so I was a kid when Britney and the bubblegum pop craze hit. Almost brought me to tears, but good tears as it caused me to remember those feelings of watching Britney in her prime being able to see her live back then was incredible, she was electrifying.
“I was too young to perceive myself through the world yet, so I gave myself everything I lacked. I was not yet reframed, because I was the frame. I was not in their eyes, because I was the eye.”
The themes in “Honey” extend beyond whirlwind fame to illustrate the harsh reality of coming of age in a world that prioritizes the male gaze.

There were some parts of this that I liked. I liked the formatting of each part of the book being a different part of a song. I found that to be very unique. I also thought the author did a fabulous job of really writing how complex of a friendship Amber and Gwen had.
This book just didn't have much in it. I wasn't particularly invested and didn't really care about the characters. I wanted more. Amber's mom was such a big part of her history and why she decides to be who she is, but we barely see this character. Why? Give us more drama! I even forgot Amber had a brother.
In general, I just wanted more to come of this than did.

liked this far more than i expected i would. the writing sort of devolves out of what it starts as (which makes sense, i do not think what it begins with could have sustained 300+ pages) and is a bit trite, but the story itself stabs me!!
