10 Minutes till Bedtime by Peggy Rathmann is a seemingly thin read, but this book takes you (like Rathmann's other books - Good Night Gorilla and Officer Buckle and Gloria) into a picture world that overlaps with itself. I would recommend this to any child ages 2 1/2 -8. The story is rollicking from the moment "10 minutes till bed time" is shouted out by the father. We find the hamsters 10 minute bedtime tour is about to commence and from there it is a quick 10 minutes full of bedtime necessities. The hamster tour is amazing, Rathmann has great visuals that tell their own story within the story. It is fun to look at the illustrations and see new things each time. My kids still like me to shout out "10 minutes till bedtime" and they are much older than 8.
I don't remember my childhood hamster, Mork, being this entertaining.
Another illustrated masterpiece. These pictures that can keep us busy for hours. Have fun finding the 10 numbered Hamsters on each page. Keep and eye out and you will even see some friends from Goodnight Gorilla.

I've used this for bedtime story times, though it would probably be better as a lap book so that the child could pour over the illustrations.

This book is very funny, especially if your kid is familiar with other Peggy Rathmann books. It is also a good way to talk about bedtime. Nate and I have a harder time with this book because there are so few words.

So much going on visually here that it is a real treat for parents too. Great counting book, great illustrations, a lot of humor. We notice something new every time we read it. We'd been reading it for weeks before we noticed all the little tie-ins to our favorite book by Peggy: Goodnight Gorilla.
