This was a cute read. I enjoyed the characters and the writing.
Did I read it in one sitting? Yes. Did I absolutely love it? YES. It was so good and even had real life issues that deepened the plot while having great spice and super cute moments between the main characters. I adored it!
Nope. Not for me.
I had high hopes for this book & this trope is one of my favorites. Boy did this book disappoint.
It was a cute premise, but the book felt rushed. 6 months had passed at the 75% mark and we’d only seen like 3 scenes of these characters together outside of a bedroom. Even the ¾ conflict was short.
This book just lacked story for me, and had me rolling my eyes a lot.

I am addicted to sports romance recently with anything having to do with best friends brother or brothers best friend.
Moore scored with this story of Reed, who we met in Newspaper Nanny, and Holland. The first book in her new hockey romance series sets the fabulous tone for what I know will be wonderfully sweet romances with a hint of the alpha men we have come to love from Moore.
Holland and Reed have great chemistry in this book, and Reed stepping up to be a dad to his nephew was adorable. I loved all of Evan and Reeds scenes together. If you're looking for a sweet pick me up this is that book!

“Change on the fly. You don't stop, you change what you have to and finish out the game.”
This was a cute and fluffy read (which is just what I was looking for!)
Reed is thrown the biggest curve ball of his life when he is given full custody of his nephew—who he doesn’t even really know—and takes on the challenge of bringing him in after his half sister passed away.
Holland is Reed’s sister’s best friend and also the girl with the biggest crush on NHL superstar, Reed Davidson. Of course, he has no clue and she has no plans of revealing her secret.
“I wuv you, Weed.”Jesus, someone’s cutting onions in here again. My heart constricts in my chest with something I never thought I’d ever experience. I lift my arms and wrap them around his tiny body, and we stay like that. Embracing. Me fighting back misty eyes, and Holland gazing at us with tears in hers. “I love you too, buddy.
Seeing the progression and growth of Reed being a no worries, live-laugh-love kinda guy to making a 180 and raising his little nephew and doing everything possible to make sure everything was perfect for him was adorable. I’m a sucker for single dad trope and this book gave me all the serotonin I needed.

My absolute favorite trope, best friend’s brother! This was such a cute hockey romance! I’m usually not a fan of books that involve kids, but this was so good. I know Maren Moore is known to write books involving kids but she does it so well. This was my first book by her and I am obsessed! I’m ready to binge read all her books!
This was a best friends brother/surprise custody of a kid/childhood crush romance.
Holland has been in love with Reed since she was a preteen following him around with his little sister/her best friend. But Reed is just starting to see Holland as the woman she is rather than his sisters BFF.
Then Reed’s world gets thrown upside down when he finds out he is the only suitable relative to take custody of his step sisters 3 year old son (whom he has never met).
Evan was the sweetest kid and his obsession with ocean creatures was adorable. But it kinda seemed too easy. Evan just fit in and suddenly Reed’s playboy life changed so easily to fit in both Evan and Holland. It kind of just seemed too easy.
Overall it was a quick and fun read. I adore hockey romances! I hope Emery gets her own story because I loved her character!!

Cute
I really enjoyed Holland and Reed's story! I bought this book long enough ago that I was murky on the details so everything was a pleasant surprise

It felt way too short. Lots of development was off page. We should have gotten scenes of Reed flying to NY to pick up Evan, like first seeing him and being afraid they wouldn't like each other. I was looking forward to that after the scenes of Reed coming to the decision to take him, so it felt cheap that it was all summed up in like a paragraph. Evan himself was little more than a plot device, he didn't really change much on page. I wanted the fumbling new-dad scenes. Give me Big Daddy levels of "wtf am I doing??" He was always conveniently taken care of when he wasn't important for plot. We didn't get to see how Evan changed Reed at all. Also more sneaking around Em more than just the ONE cabin incident would have been nice to drive up the stakes better.
