Moved a little too fast for my liking. It seemed like the main characters were together within the first couple of chapters.

I’ve been trying to read new-to-me hockey romances, and that roads been fun so far. But they can’t all be hits, right?
📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Friends-to-lovers, single dad-ish
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Reed, one of the worlds hottest hockey players, inherits custody of his nephew suddenly. To help with the transition, he employs his sister’s best friend who he finds a deep connection with.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I’m not mad I read this book, I would just be shocked if I remembered one detail about it in a week.
Every aspect I look forward to in a romance novel was done with minimal effort here. The characters weren’t developed. The hockey content wasn’t done well. The romance had no tension. Key moments were glossed over. Every part of this book lacked detail. The spice was lackluster. I’m not even sure I liked the male MC. And on top of all of that, the book had formatting errors that threw me off the entire read.
Again, the story wasn’t BAD, it just wasn’t enough.
𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3/5 🌶🌶🌶
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱: Highly recommend Hard to Handle by K Bromberg and Consider Me by Becka Mack. If you want something darker, try Love & Hockey by Monty Jay.

Apparently I’m a sucker because when I see authors are updating their covers, I’m like - “should I give this a try??”
This was pretty short (270 Kindle pages) and sort of felt like a Hallmark movie - it’s a tale as old as time of the dorky young girl who falls for her best friend’s older brother, whose always been a hotshot. It was sickly sweet, low angst, fast paced. It felt like a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Thrifty kind you get at Rite Aid.
It wasn’t anything special. I didn’t feel like I got to know the characters, or that they were more complex than a stereotype (sweet poor girl / hot rich hockey player). But if you’re looking for a palate cleanser, or something sweet, or something low angst… there you go.
CW: death of parent(s), parent abandonment, adopting a child, parent with Alzheimer's

Please, Holland. This is me, Reed Davidson, the hottest hockey star you’ll ever meet, begging you. I need you. I promise it’ll be worth your while. This solves my problems, and yours. What could it hurt? Just...give me the hockey season. That’s all I need, and then I’ll find someone else. Six Months.
The way Reed talked about himself, about having the girl, having what he wanted...I KNEW we were in for a world of playboy trouble. And he did not disappoint! As soon as he saw Holland for the “first time” I knew we were really in trouble! (Even thinking about it makes me giddy all over again!) And then, the universe came calling, and Reed needed to get his shit together! With Holland by his side of course. Because who else do you call in the middle of the night? Holland has been in love with Reed most of her life, so who is she to tell him no?! We got that first almost kiss and it made me wonder how many more missed chances we were going to get. And I got the answer pretty quickly, not many! Reed, Holland, Evan, and Pickles became an unstoppable team. (My poor weak heart.) I knew from the second there were rules, Reed would be breaking every single one. Reed wanted a perfect world for Holland and Evan, and he wanted to be the one to make it perfect for them. And he did. He never hesitated to give them the very best, to give them the very best of himself. The new set of rules were my favorite.
My Favorite Quotes:
•”I want to know how I can make you light up, how I can make you come with my name on your lips.”
•’I plan to spend every free moment I have worshiping her. Because a woman like Holland deserves to be worshiped.’
•”I want this. I’ve wanted to do this for so long.”
•”Don’t hide yourself from me. I want you, every single inch of you.”
•”You never have to ask for what you want. Take it.”
•”Do you believe in soul mates?”
•”I can’t go back to the way things were before. Not when I know what it’s like to love you.”
