f: Holland
m: Reed
(Dual POVs)
I’d like to start by saying how much I liked the cover! I thought it was both sexy and fun! I thought the plot was pretty original with a playboy athlete taking custody of his young nephew from his half sister. Although I really enjoyed the plot, there was something about the book that didn’t quite capture me as much as I hoped it would.
I liked the characters and at times, I thought Holland and I might be the same person. From the way she took care of her father by herself, how she used books as an escape, and even down to her choice of shoes! Reed was the absolute sweetest! The way he treated Holland’s father and Evan was very touching. I’m so happy he quickly rearranged his priorities and left his bachelor life behind him.
Overall, I felt like this was an easy read, with things falling into place quite nicely.
Favorite Quotes:
”Get out of your head. Dont let anything in the space between us right now. Feel us.” -Reed
”Good girl,” I say hoarsely, “keep going.” -Reed

Reed is blindsided when he learns that he's the next of kin for his half-sister's little boy. He's a professional hockey player; he doesn't have time to raise a kid. In over his head, he calls his mom and sister for back-up, but only his sister's best friend picks up their phone in his frenzy. Holland has been neighbors with the Davidsons since they were kids, but she'd never guess what he was calling about.
Stories told by the MMC are my favorite and this one spends a lot of time in Reed's perspective. I love hearing his anxieties about being a single dad, his mixed feelings about his new attraction to Holland, and his descent into falling in love with her. They're an unexpected pairing but so stinkin' cute.
Tropes: Sports Romance (Hockey), Friends to Lovers, Secret Relationship, Childhood Friends

I'm a sucker for a best friend's brother, FWB, single dad, hidden romance... and I really wanted to like this book, but it was just okay for me. And okay is fine. This was a quick, easy read which I love and would be perfect for a quick beach read. It was really fast paced which took away from the storyline a little.
Normally typos or "mistakes" in books don't bother me but the timelines seemed off on a few things which really bothered me. I hope this author will re-edit this book because it could be really, really good!
Things I liked about the book. Sweet little Even. He was just adorable. I loved how Reed stepped up and took care of him.

New to the hockey romance trope, and let me say, I’m here for it when it comes to this author. Loved both MCs. Felt like there was enough plot to move along the story and got the spice too! Can’t wait to read the next one!

This was really cute but nothing to write home about. But if you want something light and silly then this is perfect.
Omggggg Maren has done it AGAIN. She writes the most perfect hockey player DILFs known to mankind! And Reed was no bloody exception!
This is a best friends brother trope which I loved! What I adore about these books is that they’re steamy, feel good, fairly low angst reads. They have interesting characters, hilarious banter and dialogue and really good story lines!
Holland was such a sweet girl! I loved her from the get go, she was super sweet, smart and a really good friend. She was selfless in all things in her life and I loved seeing her do something for herself for once!
And Reed.. what a filthy talking cutie! He was hilarious but also deep and had been badly hurt by his dad abandoning the family to the point where he thought he was broken! I loved seeing Holland show him how deserving he was if a HEA!
Yet another book I highly recommend by Maren!
