This book picks up exactly where we left off at the end of book one . With Lucian demanding that Elaine comes with him right now or he will hurt Tristian . Elaine realizing that she has no way out of this situation + she doesn’t care about herself anymore, so she decides to go willingly . At least if she dies everyone she cares about will be safe + everyone who hates her will get what they want - her gone .

We get so much more of Lucian in this book + why his brain works the way it does . Learning about his past + his extreme medical condition opens up a lot of insight about who he is . I’m not saying I condone what he does but I am saying I understand him a little more + oh boy do I love morally grey men (;

Elaine slowly starts to realize that she can trust Lucian + that she actually wants to open up to him and tell him everything . But she knows that once she exposes all her dark secrets, there is nothing that she can hide from him anymore . The constant back + forth battle in her mind is always there but she knows that the longer she stays with him, the more she will be willing to expose .

Once again I liked how fast paced it was throughout the book + how much it kept you on your toes with what Lucian would do next . There was plenty of time in this book that the ending didn’t feel rushed at all - this time it almost felt anticlimactic . I saw from the beginning that this book’s cliffhanger wouldn’t be anything to crazy but I am still eager for answers . I can’t wait to see what book three has in store for us with this deliciously corrupt couple .

This is book two in the Starcrossed Lovers Trilogy + it can not be read as a stand alone . THIS BOOK ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER !

Please check the TW’s before reading as they are the underlying theme of the whole book .

This book was given to me for honest review by Valentine PR + Literary Management .

Lets start by saying this is part of a trilogy and you will need to read Heartless (book 1) before reading this for the full story, and while this book doesn't end with a cliffhanger, it is not the end of the story. Their families are enemies and they would be killed if anyone knew they were in contact, but that doesn't stop them from wanting to be in contact. He was the head of his families empire, after his father passed the reins onto him... yet Daddy can't quite give up ALL control. She is the outcast of her family. The disgrace. Only he can see deeper into her soul than anyone else. There were secrets hinted at in book one, and they are finally revealed in this book. Now that they know those dark secrets, what are they going to do about them? What are they willing to risk? Both characters see themselves in a new light as they realize their feelings for each other are something more than what they ever thought possible. Like pretty much all of Ms. West's books, there is all the dirtiness about it. But also like the other books, there is a story with a good heart behind the filth. I think it does without saying that due to the nature of the book, this is intended for mature readers. There is some subject matter that may be triggers for some readers. There is violence and sexual coercion/abuse involved. It alternates between POVs.

 So, I finished Heartless (Book 1 in the Starcrossed Lovers Trilogy) with some reservations, mostly about Lucian. I wasn't even sure I wanted to continue with the trilogy, but after some consideration, I decided that I wanted to see if there was more to the "Monster" than meets the eye. And I'm so glad that I did because Lucian definitely grew on me. I won't go into detail, but there is more to him than meets the eye - a lot more. I love how Lucian and Elaine are with each other. They're like opposite sides of the same coin, and now that they've found each other, I don't think they could ever go back.
Like the first book in the trilogy, this one ends in a cliffy, and now that Jade West has gone and gotten me totally hooked on these characters and their journey, I'll most definitely be listening to the third - I absolutely have to see where things go for this couple.
Tor Thom and Desiree Ketchum continue to give voice to these characters, and once again, they do an excellent job of bringing out the many emotions of this dark romance. They capture everything I imagine these characters would be, and the more I hear, the more I'm convinced that West chose perfectly for the narration of this trilogy.
So, if you like dark romance, I'd say this is one to check out. You do need to read the books in order, and I'd advise paying attention to any trigger warnings. The story is brutal and bloody, and the journey for Lucian and Elaine is as dark as it is delicious.

This trilogy is keeping me on the edge of my seat. Lucian and Elaine's story is evolving. They're in love and in their cocoon. I'm sure everything will implode in book 3 but I am so happy that they're happy together. Their story may be dark and twisty but it's simple and sweet, all at the same time.

But even then, there were things that were missing here: the backstory with her uncle and the other men; why her mother doesn't believe in her, etc. I am hoping that it will be in book 3 but it seems like a lot to fit into the last book, including the backlash of the relationship between the two families.

Holy SMOKES, like seriously gang, this is a dirty, filthy, dark story that I loved every single second of! I am LOVING these Midnight Dynasty stories so far, and Lucien might just be my favorite sadist I've ever read! His story is just about as twisted as Elaine's is, just in different ways. I quite like the darkness in this one, it leads you down a path you are not expecting. Can't wait to find out how the dumpster fire that is Elaine's life gets straightened out in Relentless. This DOES remind me so much of a modern day Romeo and Juliet but with a giant side of DIRTY with a capital D. Lucien's mouth is just SO yummy. Seriously amazing read!

Lucian and Elaine’s story just keeps getting better and with this book we know more about their pasts and the things that made them the way they are now.

I still suffered with Elaine’s story but I loved how Lucian started caring about her and how he promised to get revenge on everyone who hurt her in the past. Lucian still wanted to hurt her but then he knew he was falling in love with her and that she definitely was more important than his family. He swore to protect her and gave her the safety and love she deserved.

They also knew being together was going to bring consequences thanks to their families feud but being together was more important. I loved how they started sharing their secrets and how closed they became. Elaine needed someone to love her and Lucian didn’t hesitate to be there for her and bring down all the men who made her suffer.

There’s so much more to happen yet and I can’t wait to see how their story will end, especially with all the bad blood between their families and what they’re willing to do to keep their hatred towards each other.
