I received an ARC of this book for a honest review.

Tess Makovesky has written some really offbeat stories and here she's written a fantastic crime caper about a bag of money in a conspicuous blue bag chased by the desperate landlady of a rundown Brummie pub, her pervert step-uncle, one of the city's main gangsters and his minions, and a car thief.
It has a dash of Snatch, a pinch of The Italian Job, some kitchen sink drama, and a little The Long Good Friday.
But it's all Tess Makovesky. She has some great turns of phrase, some of her characters pull off a well-timed cuss, and the whole thing rattles off at great speed.
The book will make you laugh out loud while building enough dread through strong, opinionated characters to make your stomach hurt.
Really entertaining read.

The story revolves around money, a whole pile of it, money that was never anybody’s, not really, but as the story unwinds, everyone feels that the money is theirs. The author dives headfirst into the individual reasons and thoughts and we are provided deep characterizations as a result. The story is as gritty as the world Ms. Maravesky’s characters live in, and the plot drives us from chapter to chapter.

Not as dark as some of the crime noir fiction available, but certainly strong enough to live in the same neighborhood. All the characters have their quirks and faults, as well as the qualities that draw us to them. I enjoyed this book. Four-and-a-half stars, rounded to five for this outstanding effort.
