My friend, Mia, recommended the second book on her TikTok (go follow her @miasbookshelves) and I decided that I would read the first one since it's the same couple. I don't know what this book had but oh my god. I was so consumed by this book and I just read the majority of the book in one sitting, I was just in bed reading the whole thing and I just couldn't stop. The smut in this book, so spectacular and IT WAS SO GOOD! It's been a while since I've read a book with so much smut that's also good, truly doesn't happen quite often.
Anyway, down to the story now. There's a little bit of everything in this book which is something that I could accept since there were things that I really enjoyed like the angst, a good amount of jealousy, and just Alana & Alejandro trying to bond more to be the couple that we get to see. There was also some things that I didn't enjoy like the cliches, annoying miscommunication, and innocent deaths. I KNOW, this is a mafia book and that there will be torture scenes that get graphic, I have zero problem with that. However, there was a certain scene that they kidnapped their targets cousin and it was so illogical because they weren't even close and of course, he wouldn't have known where their intended target was at. Killing the cousin was just not smart and just kidnapping him was dumber. I'm not irritated by the violence just that there was no logic behind that scene and if the author wanted us to see how violent Alejandro can be then it should've been done different.
I do believe that the ending plot was really great and that really got me hooked at the end because I knew that this would be a big twist in the story. Although it doesn't get resolved by the end of the book, I feel like it was a good build up to get readers excited for the second book which I definitely will be reading. I am a bit nervous because I'm expecting the worse to happen to the characters (I swear that I always get like this with series). However, it might be one of my next reads in January.
Moving on from that, I think that this was a really great story and I absolutely love that this was a short chapters book because it's just so much easier to read. It genuinely helped with reading the book because I was able to do short reading sprints that made me progress into the book faster. Also, this is my first time that I've read a book by Sadie Kincaid and honestly, I've really enjoyed her writing style and I can definitely see myself reading other books/series from her.

it was kind of mid. not as good as some of her other books
I listened to the audiobook on Audible. The narrators are fantastic!
This books has a lot of spicy scenes, which I typically love; however, the spicy scenes were not that graphic, which I found disappointing.
I liked the story but felt it was missing something. I’m still not sure what it was missing but it was something.
This isn’t a dark mafia story. It’s barely grey.
