This is a good book with an interesting story. It's fascinating to see inside Alsel's mind and knowing what makes him be that way.

The long chapters (with lots of "fillers"), the long dialogues, the very descriptive scenes, the excessive repetition of certain words or feelings... that kind of lost me.

I was debating whether this book should have 4.5 or 5 stars, but I had to go with 5 after it consumed my mind for days between being able to listen to it at work. This book is sad, as one could assume by the description and name, but if you are in the mood for a depressing book with in-depth character study, not amazing  but very real people then this is a good book to pick up. The author does a good job getting into Ansil’s mind, and the relief at different twists and turns is really good. All the characters are flawed and Kukafka does an amazing job writing abuse. Great book, hooked me, and left me pondering after I finished.

If I was just rating this out of my personal entertainment I’d only give it a 2! because it is not a cute, easy read that I’d grab again. This is not my fav genre and I read it for a book club. BUT I cannot deny it is so well written and makes the reader think hard. It questions the meaning of agency and what life is really for.
