Oh how sweet little Moomin is. This really strikes the line between whimsy and melancholy, in a perfect way. Moomin is out of his element in his first winter, and he does not like it one bit. The environment is foreign and hostile, and no one seems to understand what he's going through. It captures both the crushing feeling winter can bring for some of us, and the beauty and sublime of winter itself. And eventually Moomin comes around with the help of the kooky cast of friends he meets. This is a fantastic winter read, both comforting and enchanting.

The last three pages are so pretty and a fantastic reminder. Tove Jansson is so delicately clever and simply philosophical. This book may be my favourite among this series, so far. The descriptions are to the point but poetic, making reading feel seamless.
Reading this with a snow laden garden in front of me is an experience I’m sure to never forget.

Tää oli niin ihana! Jotenkin oon elänyt 26 vuotta ilman että olen itse lukenut muumikirjoja mutta tämä tarttui divarilöytönä mukaan lentokentälle. Tarina oli itsessään kiintoisa, ja muumien tavoille oppiminen huvittavaa. Mutta ihaninta oli Muumipeikon ja Tuu-tikin ajoittaiset sutkautukset ja ajatukset jotka siirtyvät niin hienosti talvesta tarkoittamaan vaikka koko elämää. Taianomainen! Pakko lukea lisää, kun tästä tuli niin hyvä fiilis.

Niin, ja kuvitukset! Aivan upeita, lisäävät tunnelmaa ja ovat muutenkin kuin pieniä taideteoksia sivuilla.
