Pure and simple YA horror.

Lois Duncan will always be a comfort read, and since it is now Hallowmonth, I'll be attempting to read more horror.

(To justify my 5 star, this book is exactly as it was meant to be, and as it was written, I loved it.)

Nada que ver con la película... ¡No es un slasher! Pero es muy interesante, una novela para jóvenes que abre varios debates para reflexionar. ¡Y además, es bastante divertida! Se lee de una sentada.

It was ok. It's an older book and it was very rushed. It was an entertaining read.

As far as YA books go, this is more Twilight than Hunger Games. But it was a nice easy read when I just wanted a few pages to read before bed.

"With slowly growing horror she stared at the letter, at the one black sentence that peered up at her from the smudged paper."

I will be honest, I had no idea there was a book before there was a movie. Going through the library by my house I noticed it & without a doubt knew, I had to read it. I love the movie (the first one at least) & knew I would at the very least enjoy the book a lot. Boy, was I right. I’ll admit the differences between movie & book are what made it for me, they did a great job on the movie but the book obviously had things the movie didn’t. For me, the book was more heart wrenching & without spoilers it is hard to explain why the book was such a punch to the gut at some points.

The book made me hate Barry even more than I did in the movie but to be honest, that isn’t much of a shock. Everyone else though, are lovable in their own ways! I loved the delivery of the outcome at the end and how each character evolved throughout the book. Even though the book is rather short, I will admit most of it did not feel super rushed. Despite knowing the most likely outcome from the movie, I still felt like enough was different to be enjoyable.

Overall, it is an average book that is by no means a regret to read. It is fairly easy to get through and has boring and captivating moments that seem to even out nicely. I wouldn’t go out of my way to convince anyone to read it but if anyone showed interest, I would be delighted to hear their thoughts on it as well.

I read the updated version, but now kind of want to read the original version if I can find it somewhere.

Honestly, I liked the movie better (I know I know a readers sin) but I like the feeling of horror like in the movie but the book felt more like a soft thriller. I would like a version of this but with my juice to it and more scares.

It is a YA book so really what do I expect but I think it could redone is a more interesting and bloodier way.

Also some parts felt repetitive. So didn’t love that. And Helen wasn’t a baddie like she felt like in the movie but also SMG is an iconic so what do we expect in that.

Over all 3/5 stars
mysterious

This was wayyyy different than the movie! The way the story plays out is a lot more invested in developing the characters and their relationships, which I love. However, I was looking for a fun slasher and this didn't deliver the way I'd expected. Still a fascinating read that kept me enthralled and on the edge of my seat but it could've been scarier.
