Ahhhh, the sweet, sweet sink into a favourite place.
Over the moon to see this third instalment, made even better for having made the trip to Wigtown and The Bookshop (shout out the the wonderful Emporium while I am in about it) after lockdowns in 2021.
I have subscribed to the Random Bookclub this year, looking forward to what that brings.
Read this if you want to: 1. Fall in love with the very South Westerly part of Scotland 2. Laugh 3. Learn a little about antiquarian books and binding 4. See into the mind of a bookseller 5. Become attached at a distance in a mild soap opera way to a group of people connected to the author/shop 6. Become self conscious in antiquarian/second hand bookshops, spotting yourself amongst the behaviours of The Bookshop clientele.

This is comfort in book form. I love this man and his bookstore.
Very enjoyable. I love the dryness of Shaun's writing and you can picture him in the bookshop being worn down by the retail business but with an undying love of books. The encounters with customers, friends and colleagues made me laugh out loud. There is a TV series waiting to happen based on The Bookshop series of books. Looking forward to the next instalment.
This really is 'cosy memoir', full of character and characters, and pictures. In no country other than the UK would such a book be published. Once again, Granny is the star of the show, and the book is almost a piece of Visit Wigtown literature. This volume covers 2016, although there's not too much mention of the Big Political Events of the year besides on the days themselves.
I’ve enjoyed all of Shaun’s books about his life as a bookshop owner in Scotland. Very entertaining and interesting.
Another amazing diary from Bythell. There's something about the way he writes that makes antisocial me want to be more social and finish the day with someone insulting me over a terribly cooked meal.
