The start was a little disjointed for me but everything links up soon enough. Plenty of twists and turns and red herrings, maybe a few too many? The conclusion wasn't super satisfying for me, a lot of things were rushed through without a lot of proper explanation. Still mostly an enjoyable read, the pace moves along quickly enough to stop you questioning things too deeply when they might not stand up to robust questioning. I won't rush to read the rest of the series but I'm open to reading more from the author if the premise seems interesting.

These books always require a bit of a leap of faith, but I still have loved every one of the series! And just when you think it's all over.... boom! The final twist of the final twist (which I had thought was likely to be coming - sharp intake of breath as it approached....)

Oh, and just love love love Tom Douglas. Perhaps even more than I love Cormoran Strike and Max Wolfe.

Really enjoyed this book! Definitely recommend it. It is one of those books where you just want to continue to read because it is so addictive, the writing is well done and just everything is really amazing. This is my first [a:Rachel Abbott|5349971|Rachel Abbott|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1518272404p2/5349971.jpg] book but definitely won't be my last!

This was an extremely addictive read. Child grooming is an awkward, horrid subject and even though this is the theme of this book, it wasn't in detail, but the hints of it were creepy enough. I just wanted to shake every character and say "just talk to someone". That's the unfortunate truth of the matter. Nobody does.
Rachel Abbott is a great storyteller and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of Tom Douglas.

A nice easy read thriller, lots of good twists and red herrings. I really enjoyed the complex character relationships and I think Scarlett was written really well as a 15 year old trying to navigate the end of childhood and the start of becoming an adult.
The pacing was good and there was a definite build up of tension throughout the book that made me keep reading. Another thing I really liked was that the setting was Manchester so I could easily imagine all the places being described.
The only part of the book that wasn't up to par for me was the ending, I just found it a little be rushed and didn't think it was particularly satisfying - I was hoping for more, but that's just my opinion.

Received this ebook in exchange for my honest review from Netgalley!

So let me start off by saying this is my first Rachel Abbott book, looking at Goodreads she is apparently a highly recommended Author, I can see why after reading this book! This is the 6th book in the DCI Tom Douglas series, this is the first one I've read and reading this book you would never know it was part of a series, It reads perfectly fine as a standalone!

I will definitely be looking out for her books in the future, this was a very fast paced thrilling read for me, after starting it i did not want to put my kindle down! I was very submerged in the lives of Natalie and Scarlett, As a mother of a daughter, this story really hits home for me, Sometimes there is just something that stands out and makes you weary of a guy, maybe it's something he says to her, or does in her presence or something you hear about or something on his computer. I have had an incident like this in my life and I reacted exactly the way Natalie did, really brings you and a character together when you can relate to what they are going through. There is a lot going on in this book, never a dull moment but very easy to keep track of everything going on, a lot of times when there are so many characters sometimes it's a little confusing or you find yourself looking back to remind yourself who someone is, I never once had to do that, the Author seems to keep them all fresh in your mind so you know exactly who everyone is and what their part is, which i can imagine is probably pretty difficult to do. You would never know it reading this book, Rachel Abbott is clearly very good at her job and i will be looking forward to reading the rest of this series! Thank you Netgalley once again for introducing me to another great author to look out for !

I’ve been reading this series since the start and have come to believe Rachel Abbott can do no wrong in my eyes and this latest book proved that once again. She’s like a master puppeteer, pulling your strings, leading you through a sticky web of lies and deceit and in this case, horrible events that are sadly all too realistic in the dark corners of life. Expertly woven sticky web though, with various threads coming together in the end. Gritty and unpredictable, nothing is what it seems and the best one in the series yet. 5* rating all the way!
