There's a lot to like in this and I get why it's getting all the buzz that it has received so far. Julia is not the most likable character, which can be a struggle, and the story isn't actually about her solving the mystery of her sister--though that is a part.

So many feels. Reading about Mexicans is so rare and heartwarming. I appreciated this book in so many ways.

It's like Catcher in the Rye. Only a gazillion times better.

At first I wasn't sure what to make of this book. A story about a depressed teenager? So what? I've been reading mostly romances and mysteries and books with concrete plot lines lately.

But then, after some thought, I started to appreciate this book for what it is - a glimpse in to the mind of a teenager who doesn't often get to be the main character in popular books, and a glimpse in to the life of someone I'll never be able to fully understand but who we all interact with every day. Stories like these are important.
