I loved the content and ideas of this book. The cyberpunk samurai sword-wielding pastiche was pretty grating at times. I wanted this author to trust his audience more with the Sumerian virus concepts and spend way more times with that. That being said it was an important read and widely predictive of the moment we are living in/ moving towards right now. The prose was also super rough and not fun to read.

Ein cyberpunk Klassiker, aber kein zeitloser..
Für die heutige Leserschaft zu viel erklärt, wir haben bereits ein gutes Grundverständnis von der Technologie, das damals noch nicht gegeben war (viele langweilige Erklärungen).
Die Sprache/Der Schreibstil waren zu leger für meinen Geschmack (passten aber zu den Figuren und zu der "dreckigen/deprimierenden" Handlung). Außerdem war die Sprache überhaupt nicht mehr zeitgemäß (politische Inkorrektheit, Teilwiese rassistisch unsensibel und homophob) obwohl die Figuren alle sehr divers waren (Hauptfigur schwarzer Asiate, andere Italiener, Latin@s und Japaner und auch ein fünfzehnjähriges weißes Mädchen). 

Nun zu den Inhalten, die mich gestört haben. Zum einen wurde so viel religiöses und linguistisch-historisches wissen da rein geballert, dass man der Story kaum folgen konnte. Es hat die Story eher verkompliziert anstatt ihr die erhoffte Tiefe zu geben. Außerdem hat das auch dazu geführt, dass es sehr viel mehr um Verschwörungstheorien und Kults ging, als mein armes Buchhändlerinnenhirn aushalten kann. Ich kann keine Verschwörungstheorien mehr sehen. 
Das Buch wurde von einem Mann geschrieben, also ist es nicht überraschend, dass es auch fragwürdige sexuelle Inhalte gab; die fünfzehnjährige Y.T., die mit einem Typen schläft, der ungefähr doppelt so alt ist wie sie, und natürlich findet sie das irgendwie geil obwohl er ihr eigentlich keine Wahl gelassen hat. Yeah, the male gaze...
Der einzige Wert, der dieses Buch vielleicht für manche (Amerikaner) hat, ist, dass es eigentlich einfach nur 560 Seiten Waffenporno war.

Ich bin nicht für Zensur, aber wenn ein Buch nicht mehr zeitgemäß ist, und das in diesem Umfang, dann sollte es vielleicht einfach nicht mehr aufgelegt werden. So viele bessere Science Fiction Klassiker wurden über die Jahre vergessen und sind vergriffen, und ich frage mich wirklich, warum ausgerechnet dieses Buch überlebt hat.

Hilarious dystopian future similar to Idiocracy. Loved the teenage secondary protagonist. Got a little heady and long winded by the end, but overall a true original of a book.

Snow Crash is full of brilliant, influential ideas. When I first started reading Snow Crash, I was captivated by its cyberpunk world. I loved the dystopian libertarian Los Angeles, and was especially interested by the Metaverse and its intricacies. Unfortunately, I found the story somewhat haphazardly stitched together. It seemed that Stephenson knew which events he wanted to have happen, but didn't know how to or didn't care to bother with linking them together coherently. The characters could be somewhat one dimensional as well. I understand that this is Stephenson's first book, and I am amazed by his imagination and that this was written in 1992. Would definitely like to check out more of his work in the future!

A fantastic sci-fi world and engaging story, hindered by a lackluster ending that seemingly attempts to tie it all together in as few pages as possible. The info dump 3/5ths of the way through was a slog, and nearly succeeded in lulling me to sleep if it hadn't been for the anticipation of continuing the parallel storyline in the next chapter. If it had taken a bit more time to wrap up the story, it could have easily been 5/5.

Wonderful. Crazy, free wheeling, futuristic madness that manages to be touching and fun and frightening and full of more implications than one might originally see. I absolutely loved it.
